What is Your Website Worth?
by  Marie R 11/16/2009

Many website owners have no intention of selling their website. Hopefully, it is making you enough money that you plan to stick with it. However, there are often times when you just cannot say no to the lucrative offer that comes in. For those who are looking for ways to estimate the value of their website, the good news is that there are free tools available that will do this for you. But, before you sell it, consider what could help to improve your website’s value first.

The following are a few ways that you can improve your websites worth. Even if you have no intention of selling it right now, these are all ways to improve the overall experience of your visitor too.

1. What is in your name? A quality domain name is critical to a well performing website. If your domain name is weak or hard to remember, chances are good that you will not get repeat visitors often. Ensure your domain name is clearly understood
2. Determine the amount of advertising revenue you have coming in. Are you making enough, or anything? If you update the quality of your advertising, you will attract better traffic and in turn more profit. Though it can take some time to earn those higher paying advertising dollars, be sure that your advertising is spot on.
3. What about your page rank? Everyone knows the importance of ranking well in search engines, but have you done ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

How Can I Build a Website With Little Money and With No Experience?
by  Edwin John Bell 11/16/2009

I often find that people would look at the TV when they interview the latest Internet millionaire, and then ask me how difficult it really is to build your own website. "Can I build a website too? Do I need a lot of money to get started?"

Luckily I have good news for them, and all of you who would like to become Internet tycoons on a shoestring. It is in fact possible to build your own website, and it is possible to market that website without having a fortune, and without going to an university first..

The first thing you will need is a website builder. Although you can design a basic website in many word processing software packages, and save it as HTML (the programming language in which web pages are written), I would not really recommend that. Rather find yourself a good visual website editor for free on the Internet. Do a Google search for "Free WYSIWYG website editor".

WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get". The "experts" will tell you that you first have to learn HTML. Ignore them for now.

There are many free WYSIWYG editors available. The easiest one to use is perhaps Kompozer If you can use a word processor, you can use Kompozer to design quite a decent website for your small business, or your family. You can even upload your website to the web with Kompozer.

The next thing you will need is a hosting account so you can upload your website to ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

3 Biggest Website Building Mistakes
by  Audrey Burton 11/4/2009

Creating your small business website is a big job. Many entrepreneurs put it off for a long time, or start and stop over and over. It is very stressful!

Then there are those who jump right in - but make big mistakes along the way. They spend a lot of money before realizing they have made these big mistakes, and end up completely redesigning their sites.

The first mistake I see A LOT is hiring a website designer without knowing what you want. The website designer could be the absolute best in the business - a gifted artist and a highly trained technician. However, if you have not come to her prepared with the information she needs to design your site, you are tying her hands.

Many small business owners direct the designer to design the site, and often the logo also, in a way that appeals to them. If your potential clients are just like you, that will work great. If not, you will end up with a site that you like, but does not attract clients.

The second mistake is certainly tied to the first, but also stands alone, and affects all of your marketing, not just your website. If you do not have a very clear idea of who your target market is, you will struggle.

By building your website with broad appeal, you are sabotaging your success. This may sound opposite to what you thought, but the truth is, if you make your website with the idea of appealing to a ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

Make My Own Website - Organizing Your Day For Better Productivity
by  Frank McLoughlin 11/4/2009

Each time I make my own website, I find new opportunities to indulge in analysis paralysis and be distracted from being more productive. Internet marketing is hard enough with out additional reasons to waste valuable time not being productive.

Let me ask you:

How many unread emails do you have in your Inbox? I had 900 at one stage! How about the latest must-read eBook? How long does it take its luster to fade when a newer absolutely-must-read eBook lands in your Inbox? How many times today have you checked to see if your latest Ezine Articles submission has gotten another view?

While stats, e.g. page views, clicks, subscribers and sales, are important, sometimes they can take on a life of their own and can distract you from doing other things that will get you closer to the goal of making money online.

It can be easy to forget that we are in the online marketing business in order to have more free time, not less. Given that there are a limited number of hours in the day and an unlimited number of things to do, it is essential that you become organized with your time and therefore more productive.

This is how I organize myself when I make my own website:

1. I set 2 hours aside in the morning before the rest of my family gets up. This means getting up at 4:30 - 5:00AM.

2. I quickly decide on my goals for the day, e.g write two articles, make one post to three of ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

Website Development - What to Avoid
by  Mike Paetzold 7/27/2009

Developing your own website involves a lot of important factors. No matter how adept you are at web development and no matter how many sites you have created and developed, there are times when you slip and make a costly mistake. In today’s highly competitive world, making mistakes is a big no-no. So if you want to be sure that everything turns out right with your website development project, there are a number of things that you need to watch out for.

First things first: If you choose to use a free hosting company, you will have to contend with several things like relatively larger ads on your website. Large ads or headers are a distraction, and most of the time, site visitors do not have the patience to scroll down to the bottom to read your content.

Since it is a "free" thing, a lot of people make use of its services, so you will not be able to get a unique URL for your site. Yours will just be one of the many.

Another important thing to remember is that visitors or viewers like sites that are light and easy to navigate. If you use a splash page, the tendency is that your site will take time to load because it is heavy with images and things. A splash page may be good for generating "oohhss" and "aahhss", but it can also be a waste of time for some viewers. It is pretty much the same if you use flash for ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

Web Development - The Key to Online Success
by  Michael J Greenwood 7/27/2009

You know the scenario - a business is called up by a web development company and asked if they want a website. The decision maker ums and ahs and then says "Well, competitor A have a website and so do competitor B, so go on then I’ll have one, how much does it cost?" The web development company replies. The business says that they can only pay half that and asks what they get for half. The website company thinks a little then replies it will still look great but may lack some "extras" that you might not need.

The above scenario is typical of how many web development companies fail to recognise the importance of usability and accessibility enhancing functionality and more importantly fail to convince their customers of this requirement. Yes, the website must look good but never at the sacrifice of functionality. A visitor is more likely to come back again and again to a website that has rich, frequently updated content and excellent navigation. A general rule of thumb is that visitors should not have to think about navigation, it should be second nature.

Website visitors are not willing to spend more than a few seconds learning how to navigate a website because it is quite easy to just go back to the search engine to find another website to browse. So why don’t website development companies push the benefits of functionality? Why are so many customers so quick to sign off a website that merely looks good. ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]

by  Alok Vats 4/2/2008

If you have a website then its content is the first thing that attracts the visitors. This is the thing for the visitors are there. It was found that over 85% of all web users use search engines on a regular basis to surf the web. Hence the ranking of the website in search engine means a lot. Updating site with fresh and quality content is the major way to improve the search engine ranking.

Higher ranking equals higher web traffic. And if the content is found useless for them or the quality is poor then turnover will degrade with time. It is the content which retains the attention of the customers to that particular website.

There is a vast pool of information on internet. With a simple Google search lots of information on the subject lists out. It is the content for which the visitors are surfing the net. And if you have a website than its main value is because of its content. It’s the real treasure.

There are too many sites around us many of which have no real content and plain in providing any information. It’s the content which makes the site good.

If you have quality content, other websites may link to your content and this will bring in even more visitors to your site. Links to your pages will also boost your ranking on Google, which counts links to your site. The information should be updated, correct and concise.

The main aim of any website is to bring web ... add comment  [ comments 0 ]
