8 Tips on Proper Video Web Conferencing Manners
by Sonja Mishek 3/2/2010
1) Be on time. Everyone is pressed for time - so dont make others wait.
2) Schedule your web conference at a convenient time. Avoid Mondays or Fridays as these are peak conferencing days and attendance is also often lower.
Start at 15 minutes past the hour. Most meetings end on the hour and this gives your participants time to decompress before joining your meeting.
The best times are 10 am and 2 pm to make sure your guests are their desks and available before or after lunch.
3) Plan Your Agenda
This is probably the most important element to your web conferencing success. If your material is disorganized and boring, or worse, unnecessary, youll lose your guests - and potential sales.
4) Cap Your Participants at 10 to 25: This makes it easier to take questions & be interactive
5) Refrain from eating or chewing gum: These sounds can sometimes be amplified by the microphone
6) Follow Your Meeting Time
If you are the moderator, be ready to start your web video conference 15 minutes ahead of time.
Start on time, and respect your participants schedules by ending on time as well.
7) Turn your Microphone Off When Not talking
8) Take Questions Via Chat During the Presentation
Some of your participants may be uncomfortable or unwilling to ask questions ... add comment [ comments 0 ]
The Video Conference Has Changed the Face of Business
by Charles Cheow 3/2/2010
In a time gone by, business meetings were conducted face-to-face. Training classes were both taught and attended in person, and telephone conversations happened between only two people. This is not so today! Over the last few decades, technology has dramatically changed the way that business is conducted. Today, seminars have become Webinars, and face to face meeting are increasingly being replaced with a phenomenon known as the video conference. Everyone from the mightiest corporations to the tiniest small businesses (not to mention families, churches, and other groups) has been able to use this technology to accomplish some once unheard of feats. Meetings from boardrooms across the globe can now seamlessly blend into one room, without a single flight being made.
For businesses, the advantages of the video conference are huge. They do not only need to be used for international meetings, but are commonly used for regional meetings and training sessions as well. By simply using a camera (which may be as simple and inexpensive as a webcam), a microphone, a computer, the right software, and a high-speed Internet connection, the conference can be up and running. Employees who otherwise would have wasted an hour or two in the car (each way) can now work a full morning before a noontime meeting. Travel which otherwise would have required overnight stays can be completely negated, adding untold thousands to the bottom line of major corporations. Another popular use of video conferencing is in telecommuting, or the increasingly common practice of employees working ... add comment [ comments 0 ]
Seven Advantages of Conference Calls
by Todd Duan 3/2/2010
Today, making conference calls is a breeze. All you need to do is to sign up with a conference call service, and notify the other participants. The service is usually free for small calls - lasting only a few hours, and accommodating less than 30 people. Even when hosting larger conferences, the sum of the phone bill and the conference call providers charge is invariably lower than the costs of travel, accommodation and the lost productivity.
The recession has seen individuals and companies trying to cut costs in every way possible. One of the significant developments as a consequence is the adoption of teleconferencing.
There are many, many significant advantages of teleconferencing over travel, especially by air:
1. Time saved. Travel, no matter how fast, takes time. Preparing, packing, going through airport checks... all these require a certain amount of time that will be wasted no matter how short the flight is. In comparison, conference calls can be made from any place with an Internet connection that is fast enough
2. No travel bill. Investing in a high-speed Internet connection can save a substantial amount off travel bills. This is even more true for companies who used to send delegates to conferences very frequently
3. Convenience. Conference calls can be attended to from anywhere - home, office, anything. This makes conferencing a much better option for people who are physically handicapped or need to work flexitime for personal reasons. In fact, conference calling has made it ... add comment [ comments 0 ]

The Evolution of the Video Telephone
by Jermaine Sutton 10/18/2009
30 years ago the idea of being able to just talk to someone on a LAN line was challenging enough. With so much distance to account for, just to get signals from one region of the US to another was challenging. Analog signaling is a thing of the past, and digital communications is steadily evolving at rapid speeds. So when the idea of creating video telephones came about, it became more evident that technology has ventured into a new arena within the telecommunication industry.
Today, the Video Telephone has arrived, and it is rapidly replacing the basic home telephone as it provides more personal value for a user. Just imagine coming home to make a telephone call on your video telephone and being able to actually see the person on the other end versus just hearing the voice of the person that you are talking to and using your memory of that person to place a face with the voice.
How exciting would it be to now experience the Star Trek era within your own home. To pick up your phone and have the person that you are talking to appear on video is phenomenal and frightening at the same time because we are advancing so fast in the area of technology that one can only imagine what 100 years from now will look like as far as technology is concern.
Nevertheless, if they can create a device that connects Grandparents with their Grandkids or Mothers with Daughters in a way that prevent ... add comment [ comments 0 ]
