VIDEO AND CONFERENCING - CAN IT REALLY REPLACE TRAVEL?  by

 Eben Haezer
10/7/2008 at 10:07
I am the absolute proof that video and conferencing can replace travel, in fact it changed my life to such an extent that I reduced my travel costs by 90%. This resulted in me spending more time back home and allowed me to expand my business but at the same time my relationship got back on track because I was not in a hotel on the other side of the world. I used to hate traveling but the difference is I am now able to choose when I travel and that has put the fun back into traveling.

Let me be clear video and voice conferencing is not the answer to everything, there are always going to be meetings that you need to travel to. But is it possible for you to meet online and video conference with colleagues, customers and friends? The only way is try it out yourself but first lets explore in broad terms what type of systems are available and if you might find them useful.

Video and Voice Conferencing Systems:

There are many different types of video and conferencing but principally this is divided into two main areas;

1. The dedicated and purpose built equipment for large corporate organizations and government organizations that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. This sector has developed virtual reality technology called telepresence which emulates the sensation of actually being at the other location. Although this is offers a superior experience it is complexed and the costs are prohibitively high.

HOW TO RUN A WEBINAR  by

 Tom Cruz
10/7/2008 at 10:07
With virtual offices and webinars gaining ground rather rapidly in a business world enamored of the Internet as well as speed, reach, and lowering costs, it’s probably a good idea to know how to host a successful webinar.

To begin with, you’ll want to have chosen your webinar hosting vendor with great care. They’re not all alike, and the differences between them can be astounding. Among the cream of the crop are Webex and GoToWebinar, but look them over carefully. Look for the widest scope of customization and active customer care and guidance, along with the best price deal for what you get.

In fact, try to get a vendor that offers you consulting services, so that you learn from the start how to host a great webinar. It’s important if you’re going to use webinars that you build a reputation for professionalism and creativity. Find webinar hosting vendors who have the most experienced staff. You should also bring in an industry expert or a client or a business partner to take part in the webinar and help you develop it. You want this content to be the best of the best. Keep them simple but creative and dynamic; encourage participation from the audience. Promotions or sponsorships can help peak interest and offset costs. Use multimedia; dare to be different from the typical business presentation PowerPoint. You can use PowerPoint, but use other things, too, like little movies, flash animation, photography, and so on.

Test the running of the software prior to all ...

WHAT IS VIDEO CONFERENCING?  by

 Peter A Mann
10/7/2008 at 10:06
Video conferencing is method by which people in different locations communicate in real time with two or more people at different locations via video This ability to see the remote participants as well being able to hear them has many benefits over audio-conferencing.

Video conferencing is now widely used by all industry sectors. Multinational companies use it to communicate with international branch offices, whilst smaller companies use videoconferencing to enable them to work with clients and suppliers in different countries.

The equipment required for video conferencing is simple to operate. On screen menus enable you to enter the number you want to call or select it from an address book. Gone are the days where videoconferencing required specialist technicians - now everyone in your office can be shown how to place calls with a 10 minute training session.

Video conferencing should not be considered in ’black and white’ terms - there will always be a need to travel to meet clients or partners especially during the important early stages when relationships are being built. Where videoconferencing wins out is being able to maintain those relationships easily and cost effectively.

Modern video conference systems enable users to share documents and computer images with the remote (far end) party. When videoconferencing is used in this manner it becomes part of a collaboration solution.

Video conferencing is not only used internationally, many legal firms and consultants use videoconference systems to avoid billing clients travel time and to be able to carry out more client meetings in any given ...

BRING EVERYONE TOGETHER WITH CONFERENCE CALLING  by

 Jeff Glasser
10/7/2008 at 10:05
Even though people may live far apart, sometimes it becomes necessary to bring them together. In order to compare notes, to have meetings, or to unveil new programs, companies often have to bring satellite offices together. Friends and family may also want to get together even though they may live states or continents apart. Traveling across the country or the world just for a meeting or a chat is very expensive.

Conference calling is much less expensive and it allows people to discuss what they need to, even if it’s just for a few minutes. There are programs out there that will allow you to have free conference calling and then there those companies that charge. Even if you have to pay a little extra, however, conference calling is what you should use to bring your employees, friends or family together.

Company Meetings

Let’s say for instance, that you are the CEO of a company based in Seattle, Washington. You have satellite offices in Houston, Phoenix, St. Louis and Los Angeles. You want to discuss the progress of each office, get some sales figures and you want to tell them about some new policies that just came into play. Sure, you could email the information to everyone but email can be unreliable. You’d much rather tell them in person, or at least let them hear it from your own mouth. Conference calling allows you to do just this. You can all call into the same number and everyone can listen and participate as ...

WEB PHONE CONFERENCING  by

 Nathalie Fiset
4/2/2008 at 09:18
These past few years, we have seen the emergence of a new technology called Voice Over Internet Protocol or VOIP. This marvelous development allows people to transmit their voices through the internet, transforming their headsets and computers into telephones. You might think that this is redundant, considering that most internet connections today use something akin to a phone line. However, you haven’t heard about the benefits of web phone conferencing yet.

People today make use of different web phone meeting services in order to make sure that they are able to communicate properly and effectively without having to pay the costs of a long-distance telephone call. As you may probably know, the biggest problem that people have with using a phone to hold a teleconference is that the costs tend to vary with distance. With the development of VOIP, however, you only need to pay a fraction of the price for the connectivity.

There is one problem with this technology, however, and it lies on the fact that we are talking about a relatively new development here. People who are expecting to find the same type of quality and clarity in using online phone conferencing may end up disappointed. This is because there are still some bugs that need to be worked out in order to allow people to have the same experience as using a phone.

There are, however, some factors that make people favor internet phone meetings using VOIP over conventional teleconferences. These factors, added to the savings, make web phone ...

SAVE MONEY THROUGH AUDIO AND WEB CONFERENCING  by

 Ajeet Khurana
1/17/2008 at 16:50
Audio and web conferencing allows companies to communicate with people across the globe in real time. It is no wonder that these methods are gaining in popularity. It is true that a real face-to-face meeting is sometimes called for, but the sheer expensive of sending a representative to another state or another country is daunting.

There are travel expenses, food reimbursement, and accommodation expenses. The question you should be asking is whether it is worth it.

This is particularly true when you consider the full abilities of an audio conference or a web conference. Let us begin with a study of the mode of audio conferencing. An audio conference lets anyone with the proper phone setup enter a virtual meeting and discuss the veritable plethora of issues that may come up. It effectively pulls them all into your board room without your having to pay anything more than the small cost of setting up the teleconference.

Current technology even allows for teleconferencing across the world without incurring the high cost of long distance minutes. Looking to cut costs? You should take a look at some of the bargains on offer.

That is just an audio conference. The web conferencing method has even more potential. All you need is a standard internet connection with an established chat room or discussion zone. If you are looking to save on costs, this is the way to go. Then, you just have to setup a web cam and a connected visual display screen, and it will really be ...

SECURED WEB CONFERENCING - THE COST EFFECTIVE WAY  by

 Kevin Peck
1/17/2008 at 16:49
In due course, web conferencing has proved its worth over traditional audio or video conferencing. In those situations, where the basic meeting format is that of back and forth information flows, web conferencing is just second to face to face meeting.

However, security has always been a major concern with web conferencing. Mere SSL or AES encryption protocol cannot guarantee you complete access security though they are well known as industry standards. Corporate houses cannot ignore this viable communication media and at the same time cannot entirely depend on it for this very reason.

There are so many other problems in traditional web conferencing. The attendees who needed to deal with 3D CAD design, flash graphic design, and other similar collaborations of image based applications, had to fight hard to make the meeting effective up to the minimum level.

Another big problem with traditional web conferencing had been that the attendees had to download and install meeting client software. That is not all. The attendees needed to download Java, flash installations and others to support the client software. The whole process was tedious, time consuming and expensive (in some cases you need to pay monthly usage charges for your meeting client software).

Even after ignoring all these problems, you can not be sure that your meeting is held in a 100% secured atmosphere.

What next?

Here comes "on premise web conferencing appliances", a secured and easy to use conferencing tool for corporate communication. Just install the appliance and you are ready to start the conference - ...

GETTING IT ALL TOGETHER WITH WEBINAR HOSTING  by

 Tom Cruz
1/17/2008 at 16:47
Webinar hosting gives you the power to reach every corner of the world, without ever having to step outside of your home. You have two basic choices when it comes to these services. You can choose between a software program or a hosting provider. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages. It is important to educate yourself on both types and make the right decision for your webinar based upon your research.

With a provider, you are relying upon someone else for the success or failure of your web conference. However, this is the perfect choice for many businesses that do not want to deal with their own server or any software of that type. Here are some advantages to webinar providers:

• Interactive Features - Features such as Polling, moderation, question and answer sessions

• Simple Set Up - You get step by step instructions from the provider on how to set up your web conference.

• Easy Use - More step by step instructions on how to use their specific software and take advantage of its many features.

• Backup Servers - If one server happens to falter, another will take its place immediately with proper notification.

• Presentation Archives - Have a backup of all your webinars available at your fingertips. This allows you to not only keep record, but also allow guests something of a transcript from the event.

• Moderators or Consultants - Some providers offer moderators or consultants to assist you with your webinar. They will check the function of the ...
