DEALING WITH SEO CLIENTS  by

 Andy Eliason
10/6/2008 at 12:26
The world of online marketing continues to grow and develop to accommodate the evolving needs of the marketplace. More and more companies are beginning to understand that success on the Internet depends on more than just creating a website. They’ve heard of this mysterious thing called SEO and someone told them that they needed it for their site, but beyond that, most clients don’t know what to expect from an SEO company.

And this can lead to misunderstandings and misplaced expectations. And when that happens, it can be very difficult to deal with your SEO clients.

So how do you do it? How do you keep the clients happy?

It’s not easy, but it can be done. You just need to anticipate some of their inevitable issues very early on.

First of all, time means different things to an SEO company than it does to the client. For the average Internet company, whether selling items or services, they need to see immediate results. It’s bred into every decision they make. If they are not making progress then they are falling behind. That is simply the attitude that is created in such a competitive market.

To an SEO company, on the other hand, time is a necessary part of the equation. It can’t be manipulated and it can’t be ignored. Time is simply a requirement of the search engines, and the only way to get around it is to employ less than ethical SEO techniques. And these are as likely to get them banned from the ...

CHOOSE YOUR URLS, TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS WISELY  by

 Tim Buchalka
10/6/2008 at 12:25
When using web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, etc. it’s usually possible to choose the URL (or at least part of it). For example with Squidoo, you get to choose the part that appears after squidoo.com/.

This should be a no brainer, but make sure the major keyword you are targeting is in the URL. It usually doesn’t matter if someone else has beaten you to the punch and registered that URL already. Just add a dash and a number or another word to it.

It’s likely you will still rank well for it. Likewise, when choosing the username for the web 2.0 site, use the keyword or a derivative of it.

Why are you doing this?

Google will likely find your webpage more relevant if it has the keyword in the URL for starters. You only need to look at the search engine results to see this.

When you do a search for a term what does Google do? It highlights those parts of the entry (title, description, and URL) that have the keywords the user typed in them.

Thank you Google for bolding my entry a number of times. This is likely to attract the attention of the visitor who hopefully then clicks the link.

Time and time again I’ve seen competitors miss this obvious point and lose out as a result. They might have a killer site that doesn’t rank well purely for this one reason.

Google’s formula for determining ranking is well hidden. However, it’s pretty obvious to me that having your major keywords ...

WHY SEARCH ENGINES LOVE BLOGS - AND SO SHOULD YOU!  by

 Nevil Darukhanawala
10/6/2008 at 12:24
Ask this question of any SEO expert and they will tell you "fresh content" and "backlinks", other than Google took over Blogger. The last one is the favorite as no one can argue with that.

Search engines like fresh content as it is valuable for their users, and links show that other sites or blogs (and not just your own website) think that the information on your website is useful to their readers.

A blog can be an individual’s viewpoint, a life journal, a school girl’s diary, a poet’s space, an artist’s expression, or just about sharing your moments with family and friends. One can share information, pictures and even videos with no previous knowledge of designing and programming.

Companies use blogs to promote their latest products, introduce new services, announce upcoming events, share event pictures and videos, announce special offers/discounts, run opinion polls, introduce new team members, special announcements, build loyalty, and invite their customers to leave comments and give testimonials.

Bloggers believe that blogs are being taken more seriously as information sources. One in five bloggers don’t think that newspapers will survive the next ten years. Half believe that blogs will be a primary source for news and entertainment in the next five years.

Bloggers are most open to receiving marketing messages from other blogs. Even non-blog web content is more influential among this group than traditional media sources for brand information.

Home businesses and young entrepreneurs use blogs to increase awareness and attract traffic to their online business, new ventures, and daring expeditions ...

 Troy Nantais

Are You Committing Search Engine Suicide? This Article reveals the TOP 12 Mistakes that can kill your search engine listing faster then you can shake a stick

With so many sites trying so hard to break into the coveted top 10 listings within in the search engines, you simply can’t afford to make any mistakes. Any mistakes you do make can drastically affect your ranking in the search engines. You might be committing search engine suicide and not even know it.

Here are the top 12 mistakes that can kill your search engine rankings

1. Using a ’Splash’ Page: A splash page is usually a visual introduction for your visitor when they come to your site. It’s usually some kind of graphic; the most common form of a splash page is "flash animation". These may look cool, and you may have spent a lot of money on them or time in designing that ultra cool looking animation but they don’t help you at all in getting listed. Splash pages rarely contain any content that can be indexed; and usually just get ignored by the search engine spiders. It’s best to avoid them. Think about it for a moment, what’s the point of having a page up on your site that isn’t going to get indexed. It’s just a waste of time and bandwidth. Instead create a front page that is focused on content. Do proper keyword research; focus the goal of your entire page within that front page. Give your visitors what they ...

5 TIPS TO DEVELOP YOUR KEYWORD LIST  by

 Nancy D Waring
3/23/2008 at 10:40
The terms "keyword phrase" and "keywords" are used whenever there is a discussion about marketing on the internet. These phrases are usually mentioned in terms of search engines. A keyword or keyword phrase is what a user enters into a search engine to find information about a specific subject.

To help maximize your presence on the internet, you need to develop a list of 15-25 keywords describing your type of business, specialty, or niche. These are the words you think someone looking for your services may use in a search engine to find you. You will use these keywords when:

*Your webmaster sets up your web pages.

*Your copywriter is developing web site text and

*When you write articles, online news releases or other web copy.

Spend some time thinking about the words that someone searching for information may use to find you.

1.Brainstorm alternative terms to describe your business. For example, in addition to personal trainer, searchers might look for wellness coach, fitness expert, exercise instructor.

2.Ask friends and clients what terms they would use to look for your type of business on the internet.

3.Review association web sites and see what words they use to describe the business. The home page of the American Council on Exercise uses several words that are alternatives to personal trainer.

4.Use www.usa.gov as a resource. They have tons of information about many different subjects that may trigger your creativity. For example, the section on health and fitness leads to information about what the government is doing about health and fitness.

5.Use a ...

THE MYTH OF PAGERANK   by

 Mischa Weston-green
3/23/2008 at 10:38
For those who are not a search engine optimisation specialists, PageRank is a combination of factors which would in theory judge your website on a scale of 0-10 of how relevant/important it is. One of the most defining factors in this is how many inbound links there are to your site and where those links are from. Google uses the analogy of a democratic voting system, "... Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".

So it also depends on the importance or PageRank of the website casting the vote, and this is where we get the problem of paid links that Google are so desperately trying to alleviate; shooting themselves in the foot!

Speaking with specialists in search engine optimisation Hampshire, it seems they are all fairly united on the subject, Matthew Gorrel thinks, "most search engine optimisation specialists think that PageRank is one of the more important factors that the Google algorithm uses in determining the search engine rankings; however it is clear to me more than a few larger factors and many minor ones determine rankings; no one outside of the Google loop really knows how these factors are inputted into their algorithm."

Some others I ...

HOW DO YOU GET GOOGLE SITELINKS?  by

 Junaid Ashraf Mianoor
3/23/2008 at 10:36
Before three years, webmasters noted that Google has started showing "sub topic" or "sub category" links within the results. Now Google has finally implemented the change and the name given to that service is "Sitelinks".

Sitelinks are the additional links that appear below search results in Google. They basically serve as a shortcut for internal pages of the website. It allows users to easily navigate through your website.

Google sitelinks are the ultimate endorsement of a website. While there are many clear compensation but knowing how to place site links is always like searching something in a dark art. More guess work and then hard work. But there is always a way out.

Last month in Feb, 2008, I planned to get Google sitelinks for one of my website. It was a very good experience to gain sitelinks as I also learned alot about Google sitemaps. As usual, Google is not entirely helpful in explaining the sitelink system. I worked on alot of options and found a way to get my sitelinks. I am going to share my experience so that you can also get sitelinks for your website by using these following steps:

1. Create Google sitemap of your site (e.g. sitemap.xml)
2. Upload this sitemap to your domain (e.g. www.domain.com/sitemap.xml)
3. Submit this URL in Google webmaster tool.

After submitting the sitemap, the next step is to verify your site on Google. Google offers two methods for verification. You can either upload an html file with the name which Google will specify on verification screen ...

HOW IS YOUR WEBSITE PERFORMING?  by

 Pam L
2/9/2008 at 21:07
So, if you read my previous article on how to set up a website, I am hoping you have done that by now; that is set up a brand new website, and started adding contents to it. But that is not enough. You would be better off creating a money making website, that attracts visitors and convince them to visit you again. That way you can balance out the cost of your hosting service, as well as having a fulfilling experience of writing about whatever you feel like.

Well, let’s say you have set up a website. Now what? Your next target is to bring as many visitors to your site as possible; for that is how you are going to be successful online marketer. Among all the things that many internet gurus talk about, one of the major part is played by SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Your website should be so search engine friendly that whenever someone searches on the keywords for your niche, your website should show up on the first page. Position may not matter in the beginning. Some expoerts have even said that tenth position is the better than fourth or fifth on the first page.

What you can do at this point is measure the performance of your website, by running some simple tests on it. Some of those are:

Backlinks: Backlinks are often used as part of a SEO (search engine optimization) strategy - search engines use the number of backlinks a site has as a measure ...

HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR BLOG FOR SEARCH ENGINES  by

 Jerret Turner
2/9/2008 at 21:07
Improving search engine rankings is important for any blogger who is interested in maintaining a successful blog and increasing the traffic to their blog. However, with different search engines using different algorithms for this purpose, there is no easy solution to optimizing a blog for all the different search engines. These few search engine optimization strategies that can be useful for helping you optimize your blog with most search engines.

The Significance of Keywords

Using relevant keywords in blog posts is one of the simplest and most commonly used techniques for optimizing search engine rankings. However, bloggers disagree on the best methodology for using keywords in order to optimize search engine rankings. Some bloggers believe in creating high keyword densities by using plenty of keywords. However, others argue that relevant placement of the keywords is more important and the best strategy is to use lower density of keywords while paying more attention to the placement of the keywords. Still other bloggers believe that the content of the blog is more important and using keywords naturally in the flow of the blog is a more effective way of being picked out by search engines.

Whichever keyword technique a blogger chooses to utilize the fact remains that all bloggers benefit by researching and using relevant keywords. Merely having a blog that pertains to a niche subject is not enough. It is equally important for bloggers to be aware of the search terms that Internet users typically employ when researching this particular subject. The good news ...
