Live, Laugh, Love

by  JaNee’ G. Yeates 5/6/2012

Live. Laugh. Love. The 3 L’s of life that I love so much. They are so simple but mean so much. Theses three words are priceless. They are food to our souls. They give us encouragement to keep going when we feel like we just can’t. We have seen these words on signs to post in our homes and we have also seen them in other places. But how do you really apply them to our everyday life?

I admonish you to:

Live! Live your best life. Travel to the place of your dreams. Do the things that you have been putting off for years. Quit making excuses as to why you can’t go. Decide that is what you want, plan and go for it. In addition to traveling, discover your purpose. Find out why you were strategically put on this earth. We all have a purpose. If we didn’t, ...

Appreciating People Leads to Happiness

by  Eli Attias 5/6/2012

An important aspect to becoming happy is by appreciating people and the things they do for you. At this very moment as you are reading this there are hundreds of thousands of people that are working to serve you in some way or another, whether it be directly or indirectly, or whether or not you meet them or don’t meet them they are out there working to service you.

There are the planters and farmers who will eventually be producing the food you will eat. There are people weaving clothing that you may eventually wear, there are people that are working for your Phone Company, electricity company, gas company, and the internet providers that allow you to read this article. I think you are starting to catch my drift. There are so many people that make certain you will have food, water, heat, electricity, gas, and more, and you will ...

Find a Reason to Smile

by  Jennifer O Isiko 5/6/2012

I woke up in the morning feeling weird, and generally stressed. I checked on my son at school and he requested for some money to go for a scouts camping event. The cost of the camp was a bit high but I could afford it. That was a reason for me to smile.

I proceeded to the community where as part of my job I had to visit a school. The school has 96 children. There were 3 kindergarten classes and 4 classes for primary. However all these 7 classes studied in two incomplete rooms; one of the rooms was half-roofed. When it rains, which is a common occurrence in the area, the kids cluster into a corner and cover their heads with their little hands. That is the best umbrella they can afford to protect themselves from the rain.

The bare footed children sit on a dusty floor during classes. ...

The Source of Happiness

by  Roger K Allen, Ph.D. 5/6/2012

We all want to be happy. Few would disagree. However, the question is, what is the source of happiness? We’ve been socialized to believe it has to do with: money, possessions, status, power, talent, beauty, achievement, the "right" partner, 0ther people doing what we want, etc.

For example, we hold a belief that people who have more money are happier than those who have less. People who live in a big house, achieve more, or take more vacations are happier than those who do not. We are driven by an implicit belief, in our society today, that "more is better."

Even if we don’t compare ourselves to others, we often times live from this belief within our own lives. I remember my last year of graduate school. I was earning no more than $500 per month and yearned to graduate so I could make decent money. Then I’d be happy. ...

Don’t Worry Be Happy! Learn to Replace Worry With Curiosity

by  JoAnne Ceccarelli-Egan 5/6/2012

Years ago I was locked in a worry habit. Each morning I would wake up and my mind would begin to scan the landscape of my life, the way a hawk scans land for food. I was not looking for food; I was looking for something to worry about. The enormity of this habit became apparent one day when I found myself laying in bed trying to choose which one of my three top worries I would feed on that day. One morning, I became aware of this practice and realized that I needed to stop the worry habit in order to have a happy day. Do you do that? Have you gotten so used to worrying that it is a familiar companion throughout your day? In this month’s tip, I am going to share ways to replace worry with curiosity.

WORRY WASTES ENERGY and does not accomplish anything positive. ...

The Key To Your Happiness

by  Gai Comans 5/6/2012

I know there are many days when I feel that I am just taking on too much. Making promises to colleagues, family and friends can sometimes result in you breaking the promises that you make to yourself. Do you feel that sometimes you do that too?

I may have ’promised’ myself to go for a long walk; get out and enjoy nature and sunshine; or perhaps a yoga class. Sometimes even just to sit down and eat my lunch slowly rather than staying at my desk and working. All too often these ’promises’ to myself fall victim to need I feel to help others.

Then slowly you realize that you don’t actually have super powers and can’t be everything to everyone. The penny may even start to drop that trying to be everything to everyone is having a negative effect on you. When you we start unselfishly putting ourselves at ...

25 Good Reasons to Be Happy

by  Ilo Ivy 5/3/2011

It is so easy to take for granted almost everything these days! We rarely think of how lucky we truly are; let alone being grateful for enjoying the privileges of science and the benefits of history, which other generations left, for us to learn.

The truth is, no matter how relevant our logical concerns are, and no matter how many difficulties we face, we have many reasons to be happy, even if there is sadness in the world. If only we took a few minutes each day to remind us of those things, which at times get lost in our ambitions, perhaps we could avoid some stress. So let us look at the positive side of life, even if it is for a moment. Smile!

1. You are alive, breathing, living. You are here today.

2. You can see. Around 39 million people in the world are blind

3. You can read. There are ...

Health And Happiness

by  Jonathan Lee Jenkins 5/3/2011

Health and happiness is the key to a successful and fulfilling life. Unfortunately we cannot avoid our health failing us, but we can try to live a healthier life. Sometimes it is completely out of our hands but we can at least try to eat well and control the amount of alcohol we drink. We should also avoid smoking and try to participate in regular excise. These things may sound hard to achieve, particularly if you are a heavy smoker or drinker but believe me, they will have a great impact on your health, not forgetting your happiness.

Unfortunately there are times in our lives when we feel low, lack motivation and are generally unhappy. We could choose to accept this and wallow in self pity or we could actually do something about it. Health and happiness can be achieved through some of the following self help techniques:

First off, you should ...

Top 5 Reasons Gratitude Will Make You Happy

by  Matthew Cluff 5/3/2011

Happiness is something that everyone wants, and expressing gratitude is one of the best ways to make this desired positive emotional shift happen. Here are the top 5 reasons why:

1. You Re-Live Your Great Memories
Often when you express gratitude, you’re being thankful for things which have already happened. By being grateful for their occurrences, you’re associating a positive emotion to an already-positive event, and by "re-living" those experiences which you enjoyed, your mind is being put back into that situation, and your emotions will have a positive turn to reflect that.

2. Your Negative Associations Will Change
Our perception is something that has such a profound effect on what our emotional state is. If we’re feeling bad, often we see things in a negative aspect, but when we express gratitude, suddenly our perception switches to the flip side and enhances our positivity. When you express gratitude often enough and turn it into ...

Three Keys to Happiness As The Meaning Of Life

by  Dr. Robert Henry Schwenk 5/3/2011

When was the last time I had an acute conversation with someone that got to the heart of happiness and the meaning of life? I asked myself that one day while sitting alone in my office. I couldn’t remember when it was. Why was I musing thus?

I set myself the task of developing three items that might be keys to happiness and meaning. Here are the results.

The "meaning of life" is the most Googled phrase using the Google search engine. People, I thought, must really want to know about this or it would not be so vigorously searched.

Well, what could I add to the conversation? I came up with these three keys.

First, people who are truly happy are those who have found their connection with the Great Reservoir of Peace that is the Universe. They do not feel themselves adrift in a vast nothingness. They realize that the Universe is ...

Happy People Make Happy People

by  Jonathan Lee Jenkins 5/3/2011

Surrounding ourselves with happy people can have a direct impact on the way in which we think and feel. Happiness is like a disease and can quickly infect us. It is therefore important that we make more of an effort to have positive influences in our lives, as opposed to unhappiness and negative ones.

Think about it, if you are constantly surrounded by unhappy people, who moan about every little detail, then eventually this negativity will wear off onto us. This will eventually drag our own moods down into a state of depression. You should try to encourage these people to feel happy. Instead of their negative thoughts wearing off onto you, you should try to influence theirs.

Generally happy people are attracted to like-minded people who are happy. But unfortunately there are times in our lives when we are surrounded by negative people, and therefore we start to feel miserable. If ...

The Power of a Smile

by  Sylvia Behnish 5/3/2011

Smiles show pleasure, happiness, amusement and humor. But smiles are also welcoming and friendly. Some smiles touch only the mouth but a sincere smile will reach the eyes.

When we smile we are more attractive and we stand out from those who are not smiling. It reduces our stress level and improves our health. Others are attracted and drawn to those who smile. Smiling elevates our moods, boosts our immune system, lowers our blood pressure, releases endorphins within our bodies, makes us look younger and helps us to stay positive. Smiling makes us more approachable and more optimistic. Smiles, like laughter, are contagious.

A smile can mean the world to a lonely person, to one with low self-esteem or little confidence and to someone who is feeling sad or depressed. A smile is powerful. It can make someone else feel happier and feel good about themselves. You can smile at strangers you ...

Living Your Best Life Now

by  Trudy-Ann Ewan 1/24/2011

There will never be a right time in which to live your best life. You can start from wherever you are and begin living your authentic life. You may feel that you have no idea which direction to go. A noted Psychologist, Susan Jeffers said, "There are no wrong choices. Both Path A and Path B offers you numerous benefits." Are you living your best life? Chances are you are not. What are you waiting for? One of the many causes of stagnation in an individual’s life is fear. Fear can paralyze you from the neck down thus preventing you from moving from where you are.
