 Caitlina Fuller
10/5/2008 at 12:06
For several years the Garmin name has been synonymous with reliability and state of the art GPS features. If you have been looking for a GPS to help you get from point A to point B or to help you with camping, hiking, or off road activities you will find all that you need and more with Garmin products.

The 495
One of the most popular of the GPS products offered by this manufacturer is the Garmin 495 as this is a very user friendly but also very capable GPS system. Many people who are looking for an affordable GPS will find that this is the best model for them. While this is a more affordable model, if you are looking for a GPS that has City Navigator, this is not the model for you. It is the lack of this feature that makes the 495 more affordable than some other models.

The 496
If you do want a nice unit that will offer you the City Navigator feature you will want the Garmin 496. This is a GPS unit by Garmin that will offer you everything that you need in a GPS. This unit can not only be used on the ground, it can also be used in the air. TRUCKING WITH NEW GPS SYSTEMS TODAY  by

 Jeffrey Meier
10/5/2008 at 12:05
Entertain Your Trucking Employees with the Teletype 710060 GPS System

"All work and no play makes the employees run away" - or so they say. It seems in this economy nobody is really running away from a good job that can keep them from suffering through the hardships of high gas and food costs. But it doesn’t hurt to be able to have some time to kick back and relax while at work. That’s why many companies go to great trouble to create an environment that will decrease turnover. But how can trucking companies create this serene environment when their employees are on the road? While they may not be able to offer a nice office setting with Internet access and free snacks throughout the day, they can offer what some consider to be a great perk while on the road - the Teletype 710060 GPS system.

Of course, you know what the major benefit of any GPS system would be - easy and fast guidance from one destination to another. However, the Teletype 710060 GPS system offers a little bit more to its customers because it was specifically created for the trucking industry. So where you may be used to the traditional GPS system that helps you navigate through the roads, this system offers special features that take into consideration all of the needs of a truck.

For instance, if you have drivers travel across the country to make deliveries, it may be difficult to take into consideration all of the truck ...

GPS KID TRACKING DEVICES  by

 Denton Burr
10/5/2008 at 12:04
Almost every parent wants the comfort of knowing where his or her child is when outside of his or her direct supervision. This has created a market demand for a variety of GPS units to passively or actively track children. This article contains information on some of the capabilities and features of these devices. Check the Internet for commercial sites selling these devices.

There is a trade off between your right to know and a child’s privacy. You should be fairly sure of your reasons for doing this such as the safety of a child, concern that a child is not going where he/she said or he/she is speeding in the car as examples. Make sure you can live with your moral choices if using a passive device which the child is unaware.

In general, these tracking devices are much more expensive than their automotive GPS cousins. You should be prepared to pay a premium. They usually include RF (Radio Frequency) receivers/transmitters to/from satellites or base station; or a GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) digital cellular network to relay information to a base system that the parent monitors. The combination of GPS, REF transmitter and/or a cellular network is called AGPS (Assisted Global Positioning System).

These units may have some of the following capabilities or features:

* Built-in microphones to allow you to hear your child and those around them.
* Built-in speakers to allow you to communicate with your child.
* May ...

HOW DOES A GPS TRACKER WORK  by

 Sam Downs
10/5/2008 at 12:02
A GPS unit is mainly made up of three segments: the satellites, the control system, and the user.

There are over two-dozen satellites stationed just outside the earth’s atmosphere. These machines are about 11,000 nautical miles above the surface and they are funded and controlled by the US Department of Defense. In order to control these satellites, there are control or monitoring stations in several strategic locations across the globe. These are the units that get the information from the satellites, monitor, and analyze them for any significance in government operations. The user holds the receiver of the radio signals from the orbiting satellites. It can compute its distance from the satellite by using the time stamps on the radio waves that were sent.

To zoom in to a specific location, four satellites are needed. The accuracy is around 10-15 meters so it doesn’t really help if the object being tracked is a car that is about 3 meters long. This is why there have been upgrades like the Differential GPS, which helps give more accurate information on the precise location of a vehicle.

Application in cars, the GPS tracker technology has found a lot of use in so many things that need to be tracked. The primary application is in vehicles. With the GPS tracking device installed in the car, the owner is certain that he won’t get lost even in places unknown to him. The screen that is hooked on to the GPS system of his car will help him find ...

CELL PHONE GPS  by

 Ray Sabo
3/13/2008 at 15:34
A map of the world at your fingertips seemed impossible only a few short years ago. Today it is nothing unusual. In the same way, it has become common for people to be able to use a cell phone GPS navigation systems to find directions to anyway. Just as amazing is the fact that the GPS in cell phones provides the direction for police and emergency workers to find you in an emergency situations or even to locate a missing person. More and more people are utilizing this development.

The GPS started to be developed and used by the federal government. Nowadays, ordinary citizens are able to receive the benefits of GPS in their everyday lives. GPS works because there are constantly released signals when the phone is on. Even without a call the GPS can track the phone. A signal is picked up and received by the receiver, telling the user the location, direction, and speed of the cell phone.

GPS track cell phones better than triangulation that was used before GPS technology. Triangulation determines which three cell phone towers to which phone is the closest. That is how they determine the approximate location of the cell phone. Although it isn’t as precise, sometimes as much as tens of meters off, it did give a pretty good indication of location. The Cell Phone GPS, on the other hand, can pinpoint the location of the cell phone within about five meters. That makes the GPS roughly ten times more accurate than triangulation.

HOW TO FIND THE BEST MARINE GPS FOR YOUR BOAT  by

 Charlie Lee
3/13/2008 at 15:32
To find the best marine gps, you have to do a lot of comparison shopping and reading about the different brands before making an informed decision. Do some comparison shopping, read the many reviews, and shop around a little bit before making up your mind which is the best marine gps navigational receiver for your needs. A marine gps navigational unit needs to use at least 12 of the 24 satellites calculating your position. All 24 would be the best, of course. And a larger screen for reading and viewing the water below the boat would be ideal. Some of the smaller, handheld or portable marine gps units are not the best because the size takes away from the clarity of the picture. There are several that are up to 7" with a crystal clear LCD touchscreen so you are able to distinguish a rock from a fish when looking at the water or bottom of the lake or ocean.

Another item to consider when hunting for the best marine gps would be the amount of alarms it has on it. Some have alarms for the clock, off-course, anchor drag, too shallow, too deep, proximity, low battery, arrival, waypoint, water temperature and temperature rate of change and there are others, but the best marine gps would have all the alarms for safety reasons. Along with the alarms, one must consider the nightwatch and sunlight modes many of the best marine gps units use to help with the glare from the sun ...

THE GPS REVOLUTION  by

 Graham Kelly
3/9/2008 at 10:07
Never heard of GPS? I doubt it. The word has become so well used as the GPS revolution continues unabated. In my opinion GPS is right up there with fire, the wheel, flight, cell phones and ATMS as the most useful inventions. And prices are expected to fall further, by 20% in 2008, according to leading manufacturer Garmin.

A grid of 31 of the nearly 900 active satellites in space are used for the Global Positioning System. They transmit microwaves that allow GPS receivers on the ground to triangulate their location, speed, direction and time. Russia is getting its own new version ready. The second generation of Glonass (Global Navigational Satellite System) already has 14 satellites orbiting earth and it will be operational by 2010 with a further 10 satellites completing coverage of our planet. Like the USA, Glonass was initially used for USSR military reconnaissance but a recent Presidential decree has given civilians full access to its signals.

Shipments of mobile phones with built-in GPS capability are expected to more than quadruple by 2011, according to a report released by research firm iSupply - from 109 million units in 2006 to 444 million units by 2011. By late 2007 GPS leader Garmin had introduced software that teams with a range of gps enabled smartphones to turn them into Garmin navigators useable in North America or Europe. The Garmin Mobile XT offers preloaded maps on a microSD card and includes access to dynamic content like premium real-time traffic alerts and fuel prices, ...

WHAT THE GPS TRACKING SYSTEM IS ABOUT  by

 Kaye Fretz
3/9/2008 at 10:06
A GPS tracking system is practical for almost all kinds of situations. Newer automobiles and mobile phones now come with this system, and an increasing number of individuals are seeing just what can be gained from them. This device is first of all a device that can establish where an individual or object is, wherever the location. Tracking devices are generally accurate and have even been operated by the police force and military for quite some time now. Read through this article to know more about it.

How It Functions

GPS is short for Global Positioning System. The system itself has 27 satellites all in all, 3 of them being spare satellites in case of failure. The system was formerly operated by the military for course plotting. Today though, everyone has access to a tracking system.

The satellites circle the globe twice per day. Every satellite is placed in a certain area in space so that a GPS receiver can establish the location of at least 4 satellites. When the GPS receiver has located these 4 satellites it can now make calculations and eventually point out a certain location on the globe.

Benefits

This system is perfect for those who travel a lot. For instance, if you like taking road trips to a distant location, then a tracking system would be advantageous. You could end up lost while on the road. A tracking system could actually help you find exactly where you’re located. This could even save your life in case you are trapped somewhere ...

GPS NAVIGATION UNITS - THEY CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER!  by

 Dawn Ohman
3/9/2008 at 10:05
A couple of years ago, I was riding with my older sister in her new Lexus. There was a screen on the front dashboard that looked like a dvd player. You see, my sister is a Real Estate Agent. She has to have a nice car to take her clients around town. I thought, "wow, I guess you have to have fancy car to have one of these in your front seat."

Well, naïve as I was, I had no idea that it wasn’t a dvd player. I was soon to find out that it was much better than that! When I asked her about it she said it is a GPS Navigational device. I hadn’t really heard about those being available to the general public yet. (Ok, so maybe it was more than a couple of years ago.) Anyway, she entered in the address of our destination and pushed a button that said go. Next thing I know this voice comes out of nowhere and begins to tell us how far our next turn is, which lane to be in and if we accidently miss our turn, it gives us an alternate way to go. I was hooked! This thing was cool. I would have loved to have a car with one of those GPS things in it. However, as a wife of a minister and a stay at home mom, well, let’s just say a Lexus is a pipe dream. So, I enjoyed hers when I was with her ...

AUTOMOTIVE GPS SYSTEMS - BUILT IN OR PORTABLE?  by

 Charlie Lee
3/9/2008 at 10:04
Whether you are driving long hours across country or a few minutes across town, you might want to consider getting one of the latest automotive gps systems to save you time and for your safety. Being able to get from point A to point B without getting lost can sometimes is a challenge, but automotive gps systems can help in so many ways. The automotive gps systems use 24 orbiting satellites to triangulate your exact whereabouts and also figure out the distance it will be before you get to your destination. Along the way to ’point B’ the automotive gps receivers will tell you roads you’ve passed and exit as well. This is so you don’t have to look away from the road, making it much safer.

Automotive gps systems have the same features as many of the handheld portable gps receivers do, however, most of them are larger and stay in the car. But there are a few models that can be taken out of the car and carried around with you as you walk around the city or the woods; it depends on which model you want to purchase. Most of the automotive gps models have a larger LCD touchscreen and come with more maps than the handheld units. Street level maps and millions of POI’s or points of interests such as restaurants, ATM’s and banks, zoo’s, schools and parks are already preprogrammed into the automotive gps systems. Although there are programs in which you can program your own ...

 Phil Reusch
3/9/2008 at 10:02
Portable GPS vehicle navigators are replacing the famous street maps that you purchased at your local gas station. With the computer age the way to find a street these days is by your portable GPS vehicle navigator. This device is a time saver because you don’t have to stop and look at the map. The GPS can talk to you and tell you which way to go. How cool is that.

There are many types and prices of the portable GPS vehicle navigator so do your homework before you purchase. Some are easy to operate and others require some learning time. But they all serve the same purpose and that is to get you where you want to go. Prices vary a lot so you might want to check on the Internet before you go store shopping or you can get some great deals on the net.

The GPS directions are provided in real-time format so that you have the up-to-date info for your system. Most brands have updates each year to keep your portable GPS vehicle navigator current. TEN WAYS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR GPS SYSTEM  by

2/9/2008 at 18:05
If you have never used a Global Positioning System before, you may find that it is somewhat daunting to set everything up. Not to fear, though - following these basic tips will have your GPS up and running in no time at all.

1. Turn it on. You will be surprised to find how many people actually forget to follow this basic step.

2. Thoroughly read the instruction manual before leaving the house. The instruction manual is included with the device for a reason. Reading it will help you better understand your GPS system and cut back on complications you may have while using it.

3. Use it in a familiar location in order to both accustomed to the device. Before you go stumbling out into the woods with only your GPS system to guide you, try taking it on a couple of test runs around your town.

4. Be specific. Know where it is you are wanting to go before you program it into your GPS system. The more precise you are in your desired destination, the more precise the GPS will be in issuing you directions.

5. Save places you may visit again. Is there a particular location that you want to return to at a later time? Saving the location will make it easier to find that place again, no matter where you may be.

6. Use memorable names. To make it easier to navigate ...

USING VEHICLE TRACKING GPS TECHNOLOGY  by

 Jim Kesel
2/9/2008 at 18:04
Managing your vehicle resources is a lot easier these days with vehicle tracking GPS technology. Whether you are a fleet manager who manages a hundred vehicles or an individual who has a nspecial car, GPS tracking technology will help you keep track of your vehicle assets.

Basically there are two types of GPS tracking technology used to track and manage vehicles. The cheapest and also the one that has been around for the longest period is called "GPS Logging". GPS logging units are generally placed in a vehicle for a set amount of time and then are retrieved. The unit is normally attached to a computer where the logging software up loads the data into a data base. The information is displayed in map and table form for analysis and use. Logging GPS units are useful due to the fact that they are generally small and inexpensive. They also are very reliable. The major drawback to these vehicle tracking GPS units is that the information is old. Never the less you can make management decisions based on the information loggers provide.

The second and newest type of vehicle tracking GPS technology is called "Real Time" GPS tracking. Just as the name implies real time GPS tracking provides relatively current tracking information on each vehicle being tracked. These tracking units are generally larger and more costly than logger units. They are comprised of a GPS unit and a communication unit. In addition you will have to use a GPS tracking Service Company to ...

HOW TO CHOOSE A GPS NAVIGATION SYSTEM  by

 Patty Pinkerton
2/9/2008 at 18:03
One of the best advantages of having a portable GPS unit is that users can easily travel with the system and use them all over North America, Europe and other programmable destinations. The systems can be easily used in rental cars to help navigate unfamiliar cities, to track distance in altitude on hiking trips and at home around town. The convenience of use is increased by its compact, light-weight design. The unit is very easy to take from one vehicle to another when you need to.

Ease-of-use

Many GPS users find their device extremely helpful when they are trying to navigate their car to a new location along an unfamiliar route. As a result, they need clear, concise direction to provide the proper trip information. A large screen for easy viewing and an intuitive user-interface also help drivers to receive accurate trip information and still operate the vehicle safely. Please take care to watch the road not the GPS unit. I recommend the GPS units that have voice directions as well as visual.

Features & Software

Many users rely on GPS systems as the sole source of navigation for a trip. As such, consumers should look for quality products with high-speed processors to ensure real-time accuracy and efficient, quick map development. It is also important to look for products with large memories support millions of points of interest (POIs) in order to receive accurate map development for the exact route needed.
