LINK BUILDING AND IT’S BEST PRACTICES  by

 John Milligan
10/5/2008 at 20:42
Getting links to your new website is an essential part of your business as without them nobody will indeed get to your website. With just a tad of patience and experience anybody can do this, and if done correctly you will reap ongoing results long after you have finished the initial task of link building. As you’ve probably guessed, there are a number of ways of building links to your website and these will also help to get your website indexed and ranked within the search engines. Here we can take a look at some of the ways to get those links ultimately driving quality traffic to your website.

Possibly the most obvious method is to submit your website to website directories. This method I admit, is tedious if you do it manually and will take you hours and hours so it’s best to do just a handful of submissions at a given time and then do some more at a later date. You can if you wish, use submission services who will do this for you though it will cost you for the privilege.

Blogs are so popular today, being websites in their own right they allow anyone to own a website of their choice niche. You can put posts with your link on any blog you wish but don’t be blatant about it. Rather try to build relationships with the blog owner as this will carry more weight for your business. You may simply want to comment on a blog ...

PAID LINKS - GOOD OR BAD?  by

 Joel E Drapper
10/5/2008 at 20:42
Paid links are an opportunity to artificially create a lot of backlinks to your website. Since Google and most other search engines use links to determine a site’s reputation, this will increase your page rank and serps (search engine ranking positions).

However, Google has announced it’s disapproval of paid links. They will even go as far as penalise webmasters both for selling and buying paid links.

If you think about it this way, Google counts every link as a vote for your site, and what you are doing by buying links is buying votes. According to them, it violates their quality guidelines.

What does Google say?

"We work hard to return the most relevant results for every search we conduct. To that end, we encourage site managers to make their content straightforward and easily understood by users and search engines alike. Unfortunately, not all websites have user’s best interests at heart. Some site owners attempt to "buy PageRank" in the form of paid links to their sites. Buying links to improve PageRank violates our quality guidelines.

Google uses a number of methods to detect paid links, including algorithmic techniques. We also welcome information from our users. If you know of a site that buys or sells links, please tell us by filling out this form.

We’ll investigate your submissions, and we’ll use your data to improve our algorithmic detection of paid links."

What are my thoughts?

I can’t speak from experience because I have never bought links before. But what I can say is that I can easily ...

LINK BUILDING - WHAT YOU MUST KNOW  by

 Daniel R Stone
10/5/2008 at 20:39
Link Building Builds Businesses Online by sending customers directly to your website via the links themselves, but more importantly by building confidence with the search engines.
The more links you have the more relevant your site will appear to the search engines and, as a result, they will rank your site higher than sites which they consider less relevant.
This sounds simple in theory, but of course there is a catch, or several to be honest !

Relevance
This is probably the most important factor when link building, as a link to a totally irrelevant site could actually have a negative effect on your search engine ranking but a link to a highly relevant site will greatly increase your ranking, and if you link to several highly relevant sites that are themselves already highly ranked you will hit the jackpot over time, but you must be patient!

The Hare and the Tortoise
Another consideration with link building is speed. Contrary to what you might think it is better to build your links slowly, as this will appear much more natural and therefore genuine to the search engines, and in fact you may be penalised by the search engines if you build your links too quickly!

Link Type
There are three main link types and each will be viewed differently by the search engines.

Outgoing Link
This type of link is very easy to acquire, but will possibly take visitors away from your site without them ever returning, and may even have a negative effect on your search engine ranking, at ...

LINK BUILDING TIP - BUILD LINKS FROM QUALITY CONTENT  by

 Tim Whiston
10/5/2008 at 20:38
Building links to your Website is the most basic method of traffic generation and search engine optimization. And the most powerful link building tactic is to place your links from quality, relevant content.

Links built from quality content will enhance your search engine optimization efforts and result in the best possible direct traffic.

In the case of good SEO practices, linking from keyword rich content tells search spiders a link is highly relevant. Search engines aside, it’s obvious that human visitors will be more targeted when they follow links from solid content that is related to your Website.

There are abundant opportunities to build links from content. And quite often this kind of link building does not require a monetary investment.

Most site owners are happy to receive free content. And in many cases you can add links back to your blog and/or Website when you contribute this content.

Here are a few quick examples of link building through quality content.

Forums and Blogs

Discussion forums and Web logs provide an easy opportunity to contribute content. You can participate in a conversation thread, leave your comments on an article, or even initiate your own discussion. And both forums and blogs typically allow users and contributors to include links either in their posts or in a signature that is attached to their posts.

Some of these sites are heavily moderated but many are not. In any event you should endeavor to add valuable content along with your link, as doing so will increase the odds of your link being ...

HOW TO GET INBOUND LINKS FROM GOVERNMENT AND UNIVERSITY SITES  by

 Deepak Dutta
4/19/2008 at 08:14
The inbound link is the holy grail of web traffic. Getting inbound links from government and university sites is a testament to the quality of your site.

You accumulate inbound links not only to increase traffic, but also to establish your site for providing high value to visitors. However, getting inbound links by link exchange or buying text links is not going to get you anywhere. You need to abandon those archaic ideas and jump forward with an inbound link strategy that provides high value authoritative links.

To obtain high value authoritative links, your site must provide high values to its visitors. Original authoritative articles and tools to solve everyday problems are a few ways to provide a lasting value to web surfers. Before you embark on your link-building mission, create something valuable.

Links from the government sites have very high value. If your site enables citizenry to interact directly with the government, it is an excellent candidate for a link back from the government site.

Sites that provide community level services, for example location of Social Security Offices in the USA with interactive maps, will also have high potential for outbound links from government sites.

Other types of sites that do well are sites that provide information about service performance, for example, a nursing home comparison site; sites that cross inter-governmental boundaries; and sites that allow transactions with the government, for example, filing taxes.

If your site is a good fit for outbound links from government sites, start with usa.gov site. It is a central ...

CREATE THE TYPE OF BACKLINKS THAT WILL BRING THE RESULT YOU WANT  by

 Rebecca Prescott
4/19/2008 at 08:13
When developing a backlink strategy, it’s going to be less frustrating if you have a clear idea of how the type of links you’re going after will impact your site. For example, will they drive traffic, or are you looking at the search engine optimization benefits of those links? Not all links provide both benefits, and of those that do, many will be weighted in one direction more than the other. By understanding your potential links better, you can have a more accurate expectation of the results of a particular campaign. It can also help you decide where your time would best be spent.

Let’s look at those type of links that can drive traffic. I class article marketing here, rather than an SEO type of link, because the sites that tend to reprint the articles don’t tend to have the authority that the major article directories have. There may be exceptions to this, but on the whole it is true. And because your articles, when they are reprinted, become a copy of other pages on the internet, they are not going to figure as highly in the search results. However, you can still get a good stream of steady traffic to your site from those articles. This traffic will come from the various article directories, as well as the sites that reprint them. This is a great way to get traffic independent of your ranking in the search engines.

Links from regular directories will provide some value in terms of SEO, ...

AUTOMATIC BLOG COMMENTING  by

 Richard Butler
4/19/2008 at 08:12
We want everything to be done, now, done quickly and done nearly automatically!

It’s a fact!

Many people on the internet are used to automating any and every task. Many people have mainly used automated programs for search engine submission, now the latest thing is automatic blog comments.

What people are trying to achieve is two fold:
a.) Build up backlinks (search engines like this)
b.) Advertise their site/product on someone elses blog.

First let’s see what is positive about automatic blog commenting:
1.) Its is automated.
2.) Less Time Consuming
3.) Normally it costs nothing
4.) Gives numerous backlinks
5.) Helps in website promotion
6.) Its makes a website popular with search engines
7.) Less effort required

So in a nut shell it is pretty good right?

All of the above are true, and may be useful but what’s easy is not always best! Although you may believe you’ll get a good ranking you need to understand its limitations.

You know one of the things that is so important online? Credibility. People will find out about you very quickly online, and if you’re posting on everyone’s blog this may actually affect your credibility.

When I talk about credibility here, I mean your image and your websites image. As business person online, don’t look as if your desperate in earning money. Don’t look like a newbie. Don’t do things that may bring negative feedback to you. In relation to Automatic Blog Commenting, it really can ruin a business persons personality and image.

Automatic blog commenting does not show professionalism. To be frank, it really can annoy people reading ...

TRACKBACK BLOGGING  by

 Andy Bolton
3/15/2008 at 18:29
Website promotion is lifting away from the amateur website builder and fast becoming a system where only the professionals or the very lucky few can build sufficient quality related site links to your site in a quick time. The problem being that people who design websites now have to encompass the ability to produce not just a well optimized site, but a site that will attract good quality links.

For some people link building is a very slow methodical process and it takes a long time to establish your website as an authority on your particular niche. What you need is to be able to find and post to all the relevant websites and blogs that are related to your niche. The ideal situation would be to have a program the works by searching the web for blogs on your subject.

Blogs are everywhere now and some carry a substantial page rank by having a program that collects the information about all the appropriate blogs on your subject by looking in the likes of blogger, yahoo and msn and then you can sort out the required blogs via page rank or relevance and then post to these then that would be exceptional. At the moment there is only one package that I know that provides this exceptional service that is trackback spider. This program allows the user to set up specific keyword databases of blogs and then sort them and then post to them using a posting service. This program is able ...

THERE’S VALUE IN LINK BUILDING FOR BUSINESSES  by

 Andy West
3/15/2008 at 18:28
With the search engines becoming more discerning every day in their efforts to ferret out purchased links vs. reciprocal links and valuable links vs. random links, the value of links for online businesses is still being questioned. The simple fact remains the same - there is no other tool that offers more ways to get your site noticed on the Internet than good links. That being said, link building is obviously still an incredibly valuable tool that isn’t going to fade into the background any time soon.

Links increase ranking. Link building affects where you fall in search engine rankings. Yes, it depends on how good those links are and whether they are reciprocal links, one-way links and dozens of other variations on the theme, but the net result is the same. If others are linking to you, the search engines will sit up and take notice.

Links increase business credibility. If no one else in your industry is linked to you, potential customers will wonder why; conversely, if they keep seeing links to your site on other industry sites they will notice and assume that you must be "somebody." They may follow the link now or later, or they may simply file the information away for future reference, but the name and the credibility will stick.

See increased traffic. Link building leads to traffic, pure and simple, particularly if you have built links from relevant websites. Not all of this traffic will turn into business, but remember that increased traffic will also ...

EXCHANGE YOUR WEB SITE POPULARITY  by

 Vasileios Tyrmakidis
3/15/2008 at 18:26
Link exchanging has become a legitimate and respected practice amid many webmasters in the online community. Once concerns over being confused with a "link farm," made many site owners hesitate, however the idea never failed to transcend such worries and has become a popular option for building traffic.

If link exchanging is performed in a professional and reasonable way, it can boost the results of your hard work. It an improve search engine rank, offer great link popularity, and ultimate, increase your worthwhile web traffic.

To maximize your benefit and improve your traffic, there are several factors you need to be aware of. Link exchanging only works when you know precisely what you want to say. You must both know your "niche," or area of specialty, you must have a fully finished web site. It isn’t very interesting to consider a link exchange with a site that is, "under construction," and is most likely new. New web sites simply don’t have the traffic of established sites and it often takes time before any such volume of traffic will regularly visit.

Once your site is complete and ready for traffic, you can start looking through the similar web sites out there. It’s best to avoid seeing these sites as simple "competitors," if you want the system of link exchanging to work. These sites can bring you a great deal of traffic that is already interested in what your site offers.

When you are exchanging, do not behave in ways that will get on other webmaster’s ...

FAST TIPS TO LINKING SUCCESS  by

 Anh Nguyet
3/15/2008 at 18:25
How do they do it? When you look at other sites on the Internet and you see their popularity on the search engines, you just know that there has to be more to it than dazzling content. It’s in the links. The links that come from other sites back to your site. Those are the links that you need to have.

How do you find those links? Try checking out the competition. There’s an easy way to see where their links are coming from. Go to a search engine like Google and type the "link" command in the keyword search field together with the name of the site that interests you. Let’s try an example. Suppose a competing site that is doing well is called theirsite.com. Then type in "link:www.theirsite.com" and hit return. The search engine will then come back with a list of the sites that have a link to theirsite.com

Now you know where the links are coming from, you can contact those other sites to see how you too can get links to your site. And of course you can use the same command to find out how you are doing. If your site is called "mysite.com", then type in "link:www.mysite.com" for an up to date assessment of how the search engine sees your see in terms of links.

You can also start to leave links to "mysite.com" in various other places around the web. Yahoo has an interesting part to its site called "Yahoo answers". This is where people ...
