1985 Ferrari Testarossa Reviewby James Man 5/13/2012 The cherry-red finish with the silver rims and cream-colored interior is the combination that made Ferrari famous and that made the Testarossa the most admired car of the 1980s, leagues above Chevrolets Stingray Corvette. Ferrari started production of the Testarossa in 1984, with the first model to hit the streets being the 1985. For the 11 years it was in production, there were a few minor tweaks to improve the overall appeal and functionality of the sports car, but the basic model stayed the same, and the original was always considered to be the best of the bunch. Testarossa wasnt just an average production model for Ferrari. This was to be the car to succeed the Berlinetta Boxer and hopefully put Ferrari back on the map. Everything about Ferraris newest sports car just stood out as dominant and "cool." The name itself was derived from the red cam covers - testarossa literally means "red head" in Italian. Undoubtedly, the Ferrari Testarossa instantly took center stage and became the worlds fastest production car (non-racing, of course). This is the model that practically invented the term "supercar" when associated with road-ready production models. The designing process for the Testarossa began in 1982, with the idea to create a street car that both looked and performed like a racing ... |
Ferrari California: Performance and Styleby Passione Rossa 5/13/2012 The California name invokes memories of its late-50s forebear, which is widely held to be perhaps the most beautiful Ferrari of them all. The new California is a complex looking automobile, with two competing lines on the door that harmonize as they sweep up into those sinuous rear wheel arches. The Californias nose is low and aggressive, and the front arches and the bonnet air intake are muscular indicators of the potent powerplant that lies beneath. The roof features an all-aluminum mechanism with a series of complicated looking spars that slide the roof panels on top of each other before folding down into the boot compartment. The whole process is cleverly engineered and carried out in an impressively 14 seconds time frame. The Ferrari California sees the debut of some highly and significant new technology. The 4.3 liter V8 engine features direct fuel injection into the combustion chambers. Power output is 460 CV, peaking at 7,750rpm with 485 Nm of torque produced at 5,000 rpm. ... |
Ferrari 458 Italia: Combining Heritage With Innovationsby Rossa P 5/13/2012 Ferrari 458 Italia evokes the tradition of the historical 8-cylinders cars in the companys history, such as the 158 F1 in 1964, the Ferrari 308 GTB in 1975 and the F40 in 1987 but, at the same time, the Ferrari 458 Italia personifies unique innovations and a leap into the future. Ferrari 458 Italia is in fact a completely new car from every point of view: engine, gearbox, chassis, suspensions, electronic controls, aerodynamics, design, instrumentation and ergonomics. All delivered with exceptional fuel consumption and emissions levels, considering its 570 hp. Like every Ferrari, the 458 Italia guarantees unique driving pleasure and derives most of its technology from the Formula One experience. The benefits from such races heritage are immediately seen and felt when driving the new Ferrari: the immediacy and precisions in responding to the driver inputs are simply unprecedented and revolutionize the relationship between the driver and the car. The 458 Italia is designed around the drivers body becoming his/her natural extension thanks to a perfect human-machine interface, almost at the levels of complicity among the two. 458 Italia is a two-seater ... |
Ferrari 430 Scuderia: Uncompromising Performancesby Passione Rossa 5/13/2012 The engine is a development of the 4308 cm3 90° V8 engine mounted in the F430 which benefits from a series of modifications to enhance the automobile performance. The power output is increased from the 114 CV/liter of the F430 to the 118 CV/liter with an overall power output of 510 hp. Adjustments have been made to the air intake system which has been optimized to reduce load loss whether the use of carbon fiber air filter box has allowed minimizing weight. New, specifically designed pistons have been used on this car to increase the compression ratio to 11.88:1. The overall outcome of these modifications is demonstrated by the torque and power output curves. The sound of the engine and exhaust is one of the distinctive features of all Ferraris and the 430 Scuderia does not make any exceptions. Specific devices have been introduced into the air intake system to modulate and emphasize the engines sound which is clearly ... |
Ferrari 360by Manish P 5/13/2012 Ferrari 360 is a two-seater sports car that was manufactured by Ferrari from the year 1999 till 2005. This mid-sized mid-engine car replaced the then Ferrari F355. An entirely new all-aluminum space frame chassis was built for the Ferrari 360 after it united with Alcoa (Aluminum Company of America). This gave a new look increasing the rigidity by 40% and decreasing the body weight by 28%. The engine that was used in Ferrari 360 is the new V8 engine which was much more powerful than that used for the previous Ferrari F355. The added stiffness to Ferrari 360 improved the performance where the acceleration from 0 to 100 mph was improved from 4.6 to almost 4.4 seconds. The technology used in this engine was soon followed by the other cars that were released later. F430 used the similar V8 engine that was produced later replacing the Ferrari 360. Based on the design of Ferrari 360, few other models were released that were the different versions of this car model. 360 Modena is one of the first models that were released at par with Ferrari 360. It is a luxury sports-coupe that consisted of a fixed-roof two door and came along with 6-speed manual transmission. Later, a convertible alternative if the Modena was released which was called the 360 Spider. Challenge Stradale is another road model of Ferrari 360 that was released inspired by the design and technology of the 360 Modena and Spider. These three car models mentioned here were ... |
2006 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Overviewby Ivan Rudnitsky 5/13/2012 Originally debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fionaro was presented as a unique blend of automotive brilliance and Grand Touring enjoyment. As the successor to the 575 Maranello, the 599 features a much more aggressive design as well as improved power output, making it one of the fastest Grand Tourers of its time. Produced from 2006 to present day, the 599 GTB is most commonly available as a Grand Tourer 2-seat Berlinetta but can also be seen as a 599 GTO, 599XX or the 599XX Evo. Ferrari 599 GTB Fionaro is a long name for a car, but for Ferraris current production Grand Tourer it bears a significant amount of symbolism. The numerical value of 599 resembles the engine displacement of 5,999 ccs for a large 6.0 Liter V12 engine, Ferraris largest until the FF came along. The GTB is short for Grand Turismo Berlinetta, which in Italian indicates the sporty nature of this two seater coupe intended for long, high performance journeys. Ending with Fionaro, a particularly interesting touch for a name, resembles the name of the private Ferrari test track in Maranello, Italy. The last piece is particularly interesting for this specific model line as the outgoing model, the 575 Maranello, is named after the city in which Ferrari is headquartered. Perhaps the successor to the 599 will be named after a Ferrari headquarters conference room. The design itself is striking enough warrant a few drawn-out glances. With compelling curves that weave their ... |
2009 Ferrari California Overviewby Ivan Rudnitsky 5/13/2012 The introduction of the Ferrari California introduced a number of firsts for Ferrari. It would be the first Ferrari to feature a front-engine V8, a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, a folding metal convertible roof, multi-link rear suspension and direct fuel injection. These combinations of firsts make the California a very interesting car, especially once you start getting into the specifications and begin to understand that the California is more than just a Grand Tourer. So, without further delay, lets get into the details. The California is powered by a 4.3 liter V8 that puts out 453 horsepower at 7,750 RPM and 357 ft-lb of torque at 5,000 RPM, yielding an impressive 108 horsepower per liter, one of the highest ratios for a naturally aspirated V8. The ... |

Ferrari Classic Cars Past and Present Making the Newsby Gregory Greene 5/13/2012 The supreme luxury sports car marque Ferrari is never far from making news headlines, whether it is the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 racing team or, say, their ever popular sports cars like the Ferrari 458, winning even more automotive accolades than you can shake a stick at. One thing is for sure - the Ferrari cars, and the brand as a whole, has always been evocative. Even from their humble beginnings at the start of the 20th century by their founder and automotive engineer Enzo Ferrari, the company owes much to its racing roots and heritage. The Maranello based super car manufacturer has long been synonymous with the motor racing world, especially as Ferrari is the oldest Grand Prix team in the world. Ferrari F620 This month was the time when Ferrari chose to announce their new successor for the hugely popular Ferrari 599, the all-new F620. The Ferrari F620 has got a hard act to follow, as the 599 has been a great success for the Maranello based company. This new car is expected to feature the same V12 engine which has also been used in the companys newly released Ferrari FF all-wheel-drive model. The engine that will feature in the F620, however, is rumoured to have a higher power output engine that will deliver an amazing 700bhp, which is nearly 50 more bhp than the FF model. Ferrari 250 GTO Also in the recent news was the auction sale of a rare 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, which ended up ... |
2011 Ferrari 599 GTO Overviewby Ivan Rudnitsky 5/13/2012 Ferrari has undoubtedly made some of the best cars on this planet. With grueling, manly V12s that seep with power and torque to high revving V8s that chill your blood, Ferrari certainly has a large amount of models to choose from to captivate enthusiasts with emotional experiences. What should one expect then, when Ferrari introduces their fastest ever road going car? Spawned from a race version Ferrari, with genetically tuned components that mad scientists created in secret caves, and the largest Ferrari engine to date. (that is, until the FF came along) You can now have the experience of getting punched in the face by Ferrari and youll love every bit of it in the 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO. Not to get confused with the current model 599 GTB Fiorano, the 599 GTO is essentially an enhanced version of the GTB Fiorano and a tamed version of the 599XX. This is the kind of hybrid we should be talking about, one with the foundation of a soulful racing beast and the demeanor and presentation of a Ferrari Grand Tourer. Did someone mention gas mileage? Nope, dont think anyone cares about that when youre going to fly from 0 to 60 mph in 3.35 seconds on to a top speed 208 mph. Thats great says Cletus from Alabama, "My Mustang does 9 second ¼ mile runs," but what he doesnt tell you is that if you take it around a corner itll roll over faster than a Ford Explorer with Firestone ... |
Supercar Profile - Ferrari FFby Wayne Armstrong 5/13/2012 The Ferrari FF represents a number of firsts for Ferrari, and no, FF does not stand for Ferrari Firsts, although, perhaps it should. The FF actually stands for Ferrari Four. The car is a four seater, which is replacing the outgoing Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. However, Ferrari have made a number of four seaters before so thats not it. No, the second F stands for Four Wheel Drive. This is the first time that Ferrari has used four wheel drive on a road going production car. Four wheel drive is not the only first for this car though. You cannot fail to notice the design of the FF as it is a radical departure from cars that have gone before it. The design is called shooting brake and could be seen as a cross between a coupe and an estate car. The other way of looking at it is - its a hatchback! The interior space that this creates allows for up to 400 litres of luggage, but, wait for it, the rear seats also fold down allowing for this capacity to be doubled. Can you imagine doing you DIY shopping and being able to fit everything in the back of your Ferrari! However, this is no Ford Focus. This hatchback has a mighty V12 engine sat up front which produces a heady 660 bhp and 504lb ft of torque. Thats good enough to propel the Ferrari FF from zero to 62mph in 3.7 seconds, thanks in part to the 7 ... |
The Greatest Ferrari 12 Cylindersby Rossa P 5/13/2012 Ferrari has a long and successful history of developing 12-cylinder engines. From its first V12, in 1946, through todays cars, such as the 599XX and the 612, Maranello continues to produce powerhouse engines with outlandish ability. The fastest, most glamorous ultimate supercars through history have had 12 cylinders to power them, some of the best racing cars, too. A Ferrari is all about sensibility rather than sense and the 12-cylinders engine is right at the core of Ferraris being and remain the Pracing Horses most emblematic engine, both for its performance and its magical sound. The first Ferrari engine was, of course, a 12-cylinder. The first V12 of 1946, designed by Gioachino Colombo, was an engine of mere 1.5-litre capacity; by the time its direct descendants had reached the end of their development, they had grown to 4.0 liters. The first quality expected from a V12 is smoothness. It is expensive, a bit longer than V8 and it is heavy, but it is the best compromise for smoothness in a road car. It is impossible to choose which 12-cylinder Ferrari should be elected to represent part of the worlds heritage, but what follows is a brief examination of the most notable 12-cylinders cars in Ferraris history. The 250 GT Berlinetta was designed by Pininfarina and built at the Scaglietti works in Modena. Its power unit was a further development of the original Colombo-designed single overhead camshaft per bank V12 engine. The Testarossa revived perhaps the most revered name in Ferraris ... |
The Ferrari Scaglietti 612 Grand Touring Coupeby Robert Langtry 5/13/2012 The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is Ferraris four seat, two door coupe Grand Tourer. Made for long road trips, while still designed for stylish good looks and packed full of the high performance you would expect from Ferrari. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the top of the line, high performance luxury car with all the comfort and luxury Ferrari could pack into the Spaghettis 116.1 inch wheelbase. Power and performance is no problem with the Ferrari 612. Powered by the 5.7 liter Ferrari Dino Tipo F116B, V12 engine, producing an amazing 530hp and a top speed of 196mph. The gearbox is either a manual 6 speed transmission, or the 6 speed F1a semi-automatic transmission, with the paddle shift system which is attached to the steering column and accessed easily as it is located just behind the steering wheel. Both gear boxes deliver excellent performance and the high performance that Ferrari is known for. Combined with the V12, it delivers an amazing high performance output, and in a four passenger vehicle weighing in at just over 3,800 lbs. The interior is beautifully appointed with fine leather seating, and sleek, aircraft styled instrumentation. It also provided ample headroom for the two front passengers, and seats two adults quite comfortably in the rear seats. Finding a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti for sale is difficult as most owners would find parting with this special vehicle difficult at best, but if you are indeed fortunate enough to find one a true high performance car lover will be ... |
2012 Ferrari FF Overviewby Ivan Rudnitsky 5/13/2012 All manufactures tend to have these well known formulas for their sports cars that are just as distinguishable as the brand itself. Take a V8 for instance, push the displacement out to 5.4L and drop it in a coupe and you get a Mustang. Slap on two turbos on a V6 3.8 Liter Japanese car and you get a Nissan GT-R. Supercharge a 6.2 liter V8, call it an LS9 and you get a Corvette ZR1. Squeeze 300 horsepower out of a tiny, AWD sedan with a 2.5 liter flat four cylinder engine and you get a Subaru WRX STi. But what happens when you go back to the drawing board, sketch out a fluidly designed 3-door hatch back, with vivacious curves and stunning lines, paint it - oh, lets say - red. Then, stretch out the nose; drop in a 12 cylinder engine and squeeze in an all-wheel drive system. What do you get? With years of automotive mental algorithms going through my head, fitting the features with the engine, platform, and associated brands leads me to nothing. So who is building it? No, its not the new Prius, its the new Ferrari FF. Thats right, Ferrari decided to go where no one has gone and build a small hatchback car, with a whole 12 cylinder engine that grips the road with all wheel drive. Three components that traditionally are almost never seen together. My first reaction is, how in the world did they manage to create a small ... |
