EMAIL NEWSLETTERS FOR RESTAURANTS - 10 CONTENT IDEAS   by

 Sara Hohn
10/5/2008 at 11:05
Thousands of restaurants are using email newsletters to build and engage their customer base and promote their offerings. Service providers such as AWeber and Constant Contact enable restaurants to quickly and easily deliver email newsletters and manage subscribers. But while an email newsletter can be a highly successful marketing tool for a restaurant, creating interesting, valuable content is a time-consuming headache for busy restaurant owners. The good news is that much of the content for your email newsletter already exists within your restaurant and with your customers. In this article, I suggest ten ideas for newsletter content that are easy to create and quick to engage readers. Keep in mind that you can later repurpose much of this content on your restaurant’s website.

1. Introduce your staff. Many of your staff members have interesting outside interests, hobbies or training. Did your cooks attend a culinary program? What are their favorite menu items? How long have they been with your restaurant? Having an area of your newsletter dedicated to personnel is also a great chance to introduce a new staff member or promote job openings.

2. Read any good books lately? Chances are, your email newsletter subscribers are just as interested in food as you are. Share books or articles with them that are guaranteed to be of interest. For example, if you run a regional Italian restaurant and a new cookbook is published featuring recipes from that region, let subscribers know about it. It reinforces your expertise in the cuisine and can ...

HOW TO GET CUSTOMERS TO OPEN YOUR EMAILS FIRST  by

 Scott Ginsberg
10/5/2008 at 11:04
Want to know the secret to following up via email?

TWO WORDS: Subject line.

Because that’s the only thing customers see.
Because that’s the only thing customers have the time to read.
Because that’s the only thing customers will use to decide whether or not to open it.
Because that’s the only way you can immediately differentiate yourself in their inbox.

So, it has to be engaging, interesting, curious and funny.

It has to appeal to their ego and emotions, capture the interest and make their head tilt to the side like a curious dog.

And you only have about 50 characters to do that.

The good news is, most of your competitors are titling their email with unremarkable, unengaging and uncreative titles like:

o Hi! This sounds like spam.
o Hey there... This sounds like pornography.
o What’s up? Come on, you can do better than that!
o Check this out... Yep, more spam.
o (No subject) This is lazy, annoying and disrespectful.

So, here’s your chance! Check out this list of potential subject lines for unforgettable follow up, along with a reason for why each of them work:

YOU WRITE: Have you seen this article about your company yet?
THEY THINK: Wait ... there was an article about my company? Sweet! I hope it was positive!

YOU WRITE: I saw something that made me think of you...
THEY THINK: Really? Hmm ... I wonder what makes other people think of ME?

YOU WRITE: Man, I sure hope you’ve already seen this...
THEY THINK: Eep! Did I miss something important?

YOU WRITE: I thought of you when I read this...
THEY THINK: ...

WHY DO YOU NEED AN OPT-IN MAILING LIST  by

 Michael A Forey
10/5/2008 at 11:03
If you had a chance to ask any of the big internet marketing gurus how they make most of their money, I’m sure the number one answer would be email or relationship marketing. They understand the importance of a long term relationship, as opposed to a transaction based relationship. There are several different reasons email marketing are important.

First, keep in mind that most people are surfing the internet pretty quickly, moving from one site to another. It is rare that someone will make a purchase the first time they visit a website. However, most people are willing to take a moment to fill out a quick form to receive more information about the product, service or niche they are interested in.

Statistics have shown that a prospect will not buy until exposed to a product or service four to seven times. Because of this, it is absolutely crucial to capture the email address and name of your visitor before they leave your website. Once you have this information you can follow up on a regular basis. With their email you can continue to expose them to the value of your product.

The final reason email lists are powerful is they allow you to develop a relationship with your target audience. People are more likely to buy from someone they know and trust. Email is the only way to develop a relationship on the internet. This is the way you build your reputation and your brand.

By providing you opt-in subscribers with valuable information ...

WRITE MARKETING EMAILS THAT MAKE MORE MONEY  by

 Jodi Kaplan

Email is a great way to reach prospects and customers at a very low cost. The copy in your emails can make a big difference in whether you get a low response rate (1%) or a high one (up to 20%). Here are some tips for dramatically increasing the number of people who click through to Web site.

Short subject lines work best. Too long and it gets cut off by your readers’ browsers or email application. Try to keep it under 40 characters.

Personalize the subject line. It increases open rates. People like to see their own names. And, they’re more likely to open an email with their name in the subject line.

Attract attention. Ask a question. Promise a benefit. Tap into emotions, such as curiosity or hope or greed. Your readers will want to know more and will open the email instead of trashing it.

Plain text or HTML? If you’re selling a product, like a high-end bicycle, visual images will help. If not, plain text is fine. Also some email providers (and users) block images. Using plain text reduces the chance that your email will be marked as junk.

Break up text into short blocks. It’s harder to read online, and people skim, rather than reading every word. If you use plain text, create emphasis for your bullets and headlines with asterisks and hyphens.

Write conversationally. Spell out what people will get by responding to your offer. Show them how your product can improve their careers, help them earn more money, or ...

DO NOT TRICK YOUR CUSTOMERS WITH FALSE HEADLINES  by

 Arun Pal Singh
4/19/2008 at 09:57
To increase the number of emails opened, many people try to trick their subscribers by providing catchy but misleading headlines. Their motive is to get the subscriber open and read the mail. The rationale behind this is based on the deduction that you would get more responses if more people open the mail.

It is right in theory. But then there is a difference in motivation and interest. If somebody clicks your mail because he is interested in it, you would have higher response rate with more mails being opened. What would be happening if you dupe somebody to open your mail? He would exit the moment he finds that he is cheated or it is not what he was looking for.

There is another angle to email headlines.

Many people would give catchy headlines which are not blatant lies but vaguely related to content of email.

See this

"What Would Happen If..."

"I am Almost Broke..."

"Trick To Get Listed In Google In 24 Hours"

These kinds of headlines are witnessed by all of us and somehow we are okay with vagueness of the mail headings. These also use the attention catching for purpose of getting the mail opened.

In contrast there are clear consistent headlines that not only reveal content but also ensure that only interested readers would be opening it. In my view your email heading should be honestly phrased around your content. It does no harm if you add some spice to it but writing a misleading headline would be detrimental to reputation of your newsletter.

You ...

AFFILIATE MARKETING - MAKE MONEY WITH EMAIL MARKETING  by

 Michael Pergrem
4/19/2008 at 09:56
What if there was a way to make multiple sales to someone, even if they did not buy anything from your site? Well there is! It is called email marketing and it is one of the most powerful affiliate techniques ever. With email marketing you can take one visitor to your site and turn him or her into a lifelong customer; making purchases from you for years to come. Are you getting excited yet? You should be because I am about to explain the whole process to you.

Email marketing is when you collect the email address of the people who visit you site and then send them information on a subject they are interested in with a few ads sprinkled here and there.

Note: Make sure you are sending useful information and not just tons of ads. That is spamming and can get you in trouble.

The first thing you must do is get an auto-responder service. An auto-responder is a piece of software that automatically sends emails to people when they sign-up. There are many respectable auto-responders and it is up to you to pick the right one for you. Once you have your auto-responder you are ready to start collecting email addresses.

So if you are running a site about playing guitar, you would offer something like "7 free eye opening lessons on how to master the guitar!" When a visitor sees this, they will enter their email address to receive the free lessons. Your auto-responder will send them their first ...

USING EMAIL MARKETING TO STAY IN CONTACT WITH PROSPECTS  by

 Dave Roth
4/19/2008 at 09:56
Once a contact has been made with a prospect or a customer, a salesperson must remember not to simply stop there. People can forget about a business or forget why that business was so important to them if they are not reminded of it often. This does not mean that a business should inundate a customer or prospect with information, as this can seem overbearing and annoying. However, making sure that a business stays in the mind of a prospect or customer is something that should be important to salespeople, business owners, and others that work in the business of providing goods and services to individuals.

One of the best ways to stay in touch with prospects and customers is through the use of email marketing. This obviously only works if the prospect or customer has provided the salesperson with his or her email address, but most people will provide that information to a business if they are actually interested in the product or service. Once a business has a customers or prospects email address, that business can use email marketing to stay in contact with these individuals. By sending out reminders of upcoming sales, holiday announcements, and perhaps even a company newsletter, customers and prospects are reminded of the business without feeling as though they are being nagged to make a purchase.

Nagging at customers rarely endears a business to them, but reminding them of important things that they do not want to miss can make them appreciate a business that ...

YOUR EMAIL IMAGE  by

 Linda Keefe
3/12/2008 at 08:46
Have you ever sent out an email note that you wished you could take back? Have you ever received a message that was so confusing, curt or boring that your impression of the sender was diminished?

I’m not talking about SPAM, pop-ups and unwanted email. I’m referring to messages you get from the people you know and respect -- colleagues, clients and vendors.

Many of us spend so much time with email that it has become routine. And, if we’re not careful, we don’t give enough attention to what we’re saying or how we’re saying it.

Why Care About Email?

There are two reasons why you should care what your email notes look like:

1. You want people to understand, act on, and respond to the messages you send.

2. The impression others have of you is enhanced (or diminished) by the quality of your communication.

Email is no exception. In fact, in many instances it is more critical than other methods as it stands alone. There is no body language, tone of voice, or snappy outfits to temper your message.

"It’s Just An Email"

Recently a friend of mine sent a note out to a long list of people that had several grammar errors in it, sloppy formatting and no signature. When I called and asked if he would like to hear some ideas on improving the effectiveness of his email, he said, "Yes, Definitely!"

After showing him a variety of helpful changes, he remarked, "I normally do those things for a document, ...

HOW CAN OPT IN EMAILS HELP YOUR BUSINESS?  by

 Sameep Shah
3/12/2008 at 08:46
These days, so many people get unwanted spam filling up their inboxes, actually asking someone’s permission before you send them business based emails is a solid practice that’s sure to build customer loyalty. Many online businesses have discovered how well this works, and have built opt in strategies into their online stores. The idea is simple. Encourage customers to give you their email addresses so you can send them news and information via email.

Generally, there are two types of email communications you’ll want to have with your customers. The first is alerts or updates that keep customers informed about promotions, new products, and new content. The second involves online newsletters providing articles and product tips. Either option seems to work as statistics show that 79% of Internet users have chosen to receive email information from web sites.

Used properly, opt in email strategies are a great way to keep loyal customers and attract new ones to your store. The following are tips that will start your opt in strategy on the right path.

The first tip might seem trite, but it bears repeating. Provide Value. Any prospective or returning customers will not be pleased with a newsletter that’s nothing but a sales pitch. You should always attempt to provide useful, relevant information to your customers. Also, you should be specific and let the customer know exactly what they are getting when they sign up. Will they get the latest store specials? Website updates? Nothing can turn a customer away quicker than bombarding ...

THE POWER OF REPEATED FOLLOW UP  by

 Maurice Smith
3/9/2008 at 08:30
We’ve all heard the money is in the list. Few people would argue that point. But a list is useless unless it is used. Now if you are wondering how to use that list you’ve built you will need to begin with follow up messages. After all, in most cases a person has to see an offer several times before they will take any action.

Actually it usually takes a prospect 7 or more exposures before they will make a purchase. With an automated follow up series getting your message to your subscribers seven times or even 100 times is easy. By repeatedly presenting your message in a specified sequence you stand a much better chance of making sales. And after all, more sales will mean more money Without a follow up system in place you will not see all profits possible. The next question is how to begin. After a reader opts in to your list you should contact him/her - repeatedly.

Some internet marketers prefer using broadcast messages while others use a series of follow up messages. Still another group combines both broadcast messages and follow up messages to stay in touch with their readers.

Yes, there is a difference between follow up messages and broadcast messages. Follow up messages are sent in a specified sequence to your subscribers. This is done automatically. All new subscribers will receive the same series of emails at the scheduled intervals set by the creator of the message series. It doesn’t matter if a person ...

EMAIL MARKETING - COPING WITH LIST FATIGUE  by

 Kevin Sinclair
3/9/2008 at 08:28
When you have good open rates and your list size is rapidly increasing you like to check out your email stats. What then should you do, if you notice the list is not growing as expected or that it has in fact dropped down a little? This is the time to find out why and put things in motion to get back on track.

When subscribers on your list no longer take a minute to open your emails, this is known as list fatigue. They are not unsubscribing, but they are just simply not opening your mail. What could be the reason for this? Without taking into account that mail may be bouncing, here are some likely reasons why your emails are not being opened.

1. Maybe the recipient is no longer interested in what your emails are about. They could have moved on to new interests and there is no action you can take about that.

2. It is possible that spam filters are picking up your emails, so make sure you are not using words that the filters could regard as spam. You can conduct a search to learn the current spam words and find another way to say the same thing.

3. On occasion subscribers use an email address which they do not regularly check at the time of opting in. To put an end to this problem, if you can get them to sign up with their primary email address from the beginning, it can save many future problems.

4. It ...
