MLEARNING - DIGITAL LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  by

 Jayanthi N
9/28/2008 at 19:15
Latest Trend in Learning is "Learning with mobile devices" that can be mentioned as mLearning. This is fast and being recognized as a key subset of eLearning as it provides another flexible delivery option for learners. With a growing buzz around the globe about the unique and advantageous facets of mLearning, the interest generated by technology experts and learners have already stated leading to exciting results.

For instance, mlearning benefits users in various ways. "I am studying a foreign language so to practice listening, I call up a phone number that simulates various dialogs with me...such as. buying a bus ticket..., says a user. "Now that’s something else! It gives me feedback on my understanding or even on my pronunciation instantaneously!" The vast possibilities fostered by these devices extend from sharing pictures or documents to collaborative game playing, reading and writing.

The contemporary scenario of mobile learning is heading down an interesting path following the rapid advancements in technology. These advancements are becoming the norm as quality and capability are constantly increasing while costs continue to drop. On the other hand, even after continuous advancement in technology there are still limitations when it comes to mLearning which the industry must overcome. However, this issue is being combated systematically. Currently, few of these devices are ubiquitously connected, the screens are small, the processing is slow, and the storage capacities are limited.

The concept of eLearning is a combination of relevant content with engaging graphics, animation etc that covers both the conceptual material as well ...

CHOOSING SUITABLE CONTENT FOR E-LEARNING COURSES  by

 Dan Norris
9/28/2008 at 19:15
When considering an elearning initiative, choosing suitable content is one of the first issues. Of course the content usually chooses itself. Someone might come to you and request an elearning course for the staff induction or customers might request product training. But how do you compare different content based on their suitability for delivering online?

The best way to do so is to consider the benefits of elearning and the extent to which the content can realise some or all of these benefits.

This article provides an outline of some of the benefits of elearning and how certain content types might realise these benefits.

Benefit - Lower admin and delivery costs
Training that attracts large target audiences is suitable for online delivery due to the automation offered by Learning Management Systems (LMS) and / or the web - costs don’t go up considerably when the numbers go up like they do with instructor led training. Topics for large audiences might include HR areas like "Discrimination and Harassment" or legislation-based areas such as "Trade Practices Obligations". Or perhaps even customer education programs via the company website. All of these examples are making use of the benefit of lower admin and delivery costs and will increase your overall return on investment.

Benefit - Consistency of delivery
This is one benefit of elearning that cannot be understated - the ability to consistently deliver exactly the same program for learners (it is a good thing as long as the elearning is good to start with). Have a think about content ...

ELEARNING DEVELOPMENT - EDUCATIONAL AND ENJOYABLE  by

 Christine OKelly
9/28/2008 at 19:14
Learning can be real struggle for some students. It is hard to concentrate in the classroom and retain information from a textbook and as a result many students are just scraping by. Teachers are often struggling themselves to find a dynamic solution that will hold the interest of their student while still relaying the information necessary to help them grow. A new development, elearning, seems to be bridging this gap and making learning fun again.

Making It Fun

When information is provided in an entertaining and fun manner, research has shown that people are better able to retain the information. Even with that knowledge, there are simply some concepts that must be conveyed to effectively train that will not be engrossing or entertaining. That’s where elearning comes into play and solves that problem.

With elearning, audio, video, animation and other techniques train subjects in such a unique manner that students will not only master the concept but will retain the subject material and skills learned long after the training session is over.

There Is A Better Way To Teach

Nobody likes to sit and listen to a speaker rattle off facts or bullet points. A more exciting method is to engage the students in the process and make them part of the program. Elearning development brings the training material to life. Elearning has the students constantly participating in the learning process and experiencing the excitement of the training materials first hand.

In a typical classroom training session, role-playing is often utilized where one student acts as ...

IS E LEARNING THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION?  by

 Robert R Smith
9/28/2008 at 19:14
The idea of E-Learning is the in depth way of education through the Internet. Scientific research reveals that the best way of learning are the mix and match of three modes. Namely Instructor Led, Web Based and Computer Based. The popular terms are ILT, WBT and CBT. Demands of careers in this highly complex world have lead us to the option of eLearning. The reach of the Internet has really improved our learning opportunities. The forums and online helps have made eLearning real time. The laptop has given one the opportunity to enhance their skills even while traveling.

The time requirements of ILT has put it slightly below in the common mode of learning. The lack of upgrades in case of CBT has not allowed it to top the list. Even with CBT having the flexibility of carrying heavier graphics and movies. The convenience factor in eLearning has been fueled by the factor of eLearning at one’s own pace. The ability to learn at their own residence has made eLearning a more flexible way of education.

What can be learned through eLearning? The answer in one word is anything. Some sites may teach Computers and programming. There are sites that will provide education in business management. At some sites, you can learn about cooking and food preparation. There are sites today, who are teaching even agriculture or maybe e-security. What if you are tired at the end of the day and you are feeling the stress on you. You know it has ...

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS OF AN ELEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  by

 George Ritacco
3/9/2008 at 08:11
Are you ready to embrace elearning as a tool to enhance your training program?

Before you invest in the right elearning management system for you – it’s important to do the research.

Because elearning is a 5 billion dollar industry... you should know that there are thousands of solutions out there for you to pick from. With such a large pool of tools, how do you know which one is right for you?

Not every system can help you. Some systems are very large, complex and expensive. Others are very small, simple and cheap. The scale is vast. Some are priced according to the number of users. Some charge a flat fee for using the system. Some are hosted solutions and others are software implementations.

What works well for some, may not work well for you and your specific needs. There are many benefits to using a “hosted” tool over one that is “purchased” and integrated into your own Intranet infrastructure.

You need to know which will work better for you, before you spend a dime.

What I would recommend you do first is to identify your business goals and objectives and start the research on elearning management systems that fit those objectives.

Need help? Here are the Top 10 Commandments for the right elearning system.

1. You must be able to create courses or course folders in a systematic approach, to keep your training program organized and simple to access.

2. You must be able to add documents to those folders (WORD documents, PDF’s, EXCEL spreadsheets, videos, etc., ...

HOW E-LEARNING HELPS DEVELOP SPECIAL SKILLS  by

 John Tipton
3/9/2008 at 08:10
When the words "distance learning" are used, it’s often with the idea of achieving a degree or attaining a specific certificate. But what if your company needs specialized learning opportunities?

Or what if you are a small company and simply don’t have the means to hire a teacher to help your employees gain a specific skill? The answer could very well be an elearning class from one of the companies that offer special course work.

Managers around the country need some basic skills that are the same from one business to the next. If a manager has a degree, he usually has at least the basis for managing a business. But what happens when the needs of the company change? Or when it’s time to get updated training for the manager?

A few decades ago, a manager would simply have continued to use the skills he already had without ever really getting any new training. The company’s dilemma is evident - the manager can’t be spared from his current duties to attend classes for updated training, and the company is less likely to prosper if the manager continues to use outdated management practices. Elearning is an answer for that problem.

Specialized coursework is especially efficient for companies with personnel scattered across the country (or even around the world). Consider the company that has offices in several countries. The managers all need some updated training and getting a special course put together means they’ll all be operating on the same page.

The course can be offered ...

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE GROWTH RATE OF ELEARNING  by

 Steve Bishop
3/9/2008 at 08:10
Does your child need help with math or biology? Do you want to learn more about starting a home business? In the past you would have contacted your local learning center to help your child with their studies. Then you would have stopped by the local book store or library to find books on starting a home business. While these methods are useful, they are beginning to become a thing of the past. Elearning has begun to overshadow traditional learning methods.

What is elearning? Elearning refers to any education that you receive electronically whether it is through the Internet or from a software program. Elearning is sweeping the nation because it has become affordable and is easy to access from the comfort of your own home. Plus, you can work on your own schedule. You don’t have to worry about hiring a babysitter while you head off to class. The class comes to you through your computer when you have an hour or even minutes to spare during your hectic day.

Elearning began through various software programs available for your computer. You just popped in a disk or CD-rom into your computer and you were set to go. You could practice your typing skills at home and your children could practice their math skills through computer drills and games. This type of learning provided extra practice for your child. The software programs increased in number, but you were still limited to interacting only with the disk or CD-rom. You didn’t have access ...

Do you need an elearning consultant? It is mandatory to gain some knowledge about elearning if you are planning to start a business in elearning domain. This information is necessary if you really want to get the best out of that. Some of the points that you should ponder upon are what elearning is, the categories and methods available, the uses and applications of those and its benefits. WELCOME ELEARNING! THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM FOR CONVENIENCE  by

 Ruth Campbell
3/9/2008 at 08:07
Gone are the days when one had to compulsorily go to classrooms to get their education. Welcome eLearning! A technology that allows a person to get educated, with minimum investment of time and money.

Classified as one of the points of Computer Based Learning, it is very important for us to know the concept in which eLearning is defined. Associated with Advanced Learning Technology (ALT), it commonly refers to the technologies and methodologies used with networks and multimedia in learning.

What is the market for eLearning?

One cannot be faulted for commenting that eLearning is a ’horizon’ business at its nascent stage. $38 Billion of estimated revenue projected to grow at a rate of approximately 10% every year, one could look at the eLearning Business touching the $100 Billion mark in the next 6 years or so. eLearning is made effective by the developments in Internet and Multimedia technologies. What makes eLearning an exciting prospect are the sectors of eLearning - content, technologies, services, consulting and support sectors.

How is eLearning used nowadays?

* Conventionally, eLearning is used as a tool to encourage distance learning. It allows students to complete their education without traveling anywhere. Thus, eLearning is succeeding in shrinking the globe as far as education is concerned. Now, students staying in China can complete a course offered by an institute in Germany without having to go to Germany.

* eLearning courses are also used in terms of Blended Learning. Blended Learning allows multiple approaches to learning ...

ELEARNING CRITICAL ANALYSIS  by

 Kristy Annely
3/9/2008 at 08:06
Over recent years, we’ve been inceasingly amazed by technology that provides us with easier ways of accomplishing many things. Doing business, shopping, researching, holding meetings, dating and keeping in touch with our distant friends can now all be done electronically.

Elearning is one of these technological advances that allows us to learn anywhere anytime. Elearning institutions afford us professional instructors and comprehensive online courses over the Internet and can be taken up by using a single computer. These new learning opportunities were brought in by thoughtful people committed in making life easier.

However, there are people who are critical of elearning in the perspective of education. The idea that young people should learn to be responsible for their own education contradicts the philosophy that an uneducated person can’t educate himself without the assistance of another person who’s already educated.

This point has been answered by elearning sectors by providing web-conferencing programs and hybrid elearning to allow human interactions, making it not exclusively electronic. Some elearning courses require students to visit campuses and classrooms and intermingle with people.

Critics also state that elearning shouldn’t be viewed focusing on the “e” or technology alone, but also on what follows the “e” - the learning. “How do we learn?” is a basic question on which elearning should work.

We learn in different ways differently. Thus, it requires different sorts of schooling. Elearning provides us multiple learning styles and paths.

All learning is social. We learn by conversing with others. This led elearning to focus more on discussions, forums, and ...

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF E-LEARNING FOR SMALL BUSINESS  by

 Alexander Gordon
9/21/2007 at 19:39
Growing Importance of E-learning:

There is no doubt about the fact that there are several advantages of E-learning for small businesses. This is because this is the age of the Internet and also because of growing competition among businesses. The importance of E-learning can be understood by the fact that many businesses and institutes today want to provide online learning for their employees. According to a recent estimate, the worldwide E-learning market is expected to triple in the next three years, reaching $21 billion.

More Beneficial For Small Businesses:

The advantages of E-learning for small businesses are more than for large corporations because employees learn very quickly. Small businesses cannot afford the training programs that require a large amount of money. With the help of E-learning, they can achieve the goal of training their employees in a cost-effective manner. How do you save the money? This is because you do not have to pay huge amounts to the trainers, in-class instructors, or experts. Moreover, you also save the money because you do not have to pay for the expenses, such as travel and meals.

Another advantage of E-learning for small businesses is that the employees can learn in their spare time so you also save a great amount because none of your time is lost in the process. Furthermore, every employee gets the liberty of learning at his own pace, so it is an arrangement something like one-to-one teaching. If you feel that the off-the-shelf course is not fulfilling your requirements, then you can ...

TIPS ON TAKING A DISTANCE LEARNING MBA  by

 Nic Haffner
9/21/2007 at 19:37
Although the concept of distance learning is not a new one, many professionals who already have bachelor’s degrees are taking advantage of off-site learning opportunities to attain a distance learning MBA.

Many accredited universities are beginning to offer distance learning MBA courses in an attempt to reach students who are not able to attend on campus classes for a wide variety of reasons. Many institutions that offer distance learning MBA courses are considered a distance learning college, but many traditional educational institutions are also offering distance learning courses that allow alumni to get a distance learning MBA from their alma matter. However, many times a degree from a distance learning college carries the same weight as a degree earned by students who had the opportunity to attain the same degree in a traditional classroom setting. In fact, some employers and industries actively recruit graduates from a distance learning college because of the ability and discipline it takes to graduate from a distance learning program, especially a distance learning MBA. Graduating by taking advantage of distance learning courses also shows a lot of determination and the drive to succeed, which are the kind of qualities many companies like to see in their new recruits.

However, because of many factors, there are many different distance learning formats you can take advantage of to get your distance learning MBA. Correspondence courses have always been very popular, but many distance learning colleges also offer e learning courses, which mean that it is a strictly online class. ...
