All Terrain Vehicle
Racing is filled with excitement but, it’s also filled with danger. To best protect yourself you need the appropriate gear. The most important thing you need and always should wear is a full face helmet. A full face helmet not only protects your head it protects your lower face as well. With your full face helmet you should have goggles so that nothing can get in your eyes will riding or racing.

Goggles with a roll off or peel off system are the nicest. If you shoud get mud or debris on your goggles all you need to do in the case of roll offs is pull a string and you will have a new piece of film in the case of peel offs all you do is pull the top piece of film off and it’s like having a pair of new goggles. Riding boots are very important also they are made of hard plastic and come up just short of your knees. They keep your ankles safe from being twisted bad and they help from getting burns from the engine and exhaust. Race gloves will provide you protection from debris and also help against blisters.

Chest protectors are good because they provide protection from rocks and stones flying back at you from other riders they also protect you from limbs or other obstacles around the track. Race pants will provide you with a light weight non restrictive fit that helps with your flexibility. Race jersey’s ...

THE CROSS COUNTRY ENTHUSIAST’S VEHICLE  by

ATV Tires
Extreme sports are the rage since the entry of the new millennium. They used to be free time hobbies of a select segment of hardcore enthusiasts, but extreme sports have grown in popularity with millions of fans worldwide. The term often refers to a group of sports which originally are hobbies – skateboarding, cycling, motor cross, bungee jumping, to name but a few – but has since found its way to enthusiasts with competitive streak.

For fans of extreme sports, the fun factor of the games would be in the high adrenaline levels that comes with the games which are, more often than not, have a certain level of risk of personal injury which is certainly higher than the more traditional game. The advent of competition has however dull this risk factor a bit as the gamers and their competition organizers try to entice a bigger group of fans as to spur the game further,.

Most extreme sport needs little but courage. The thrill would be in the skills level of each competitor, and the greater the risk involved in a certain move, the higher would be the score. This is true for skateboarding, to take just one example. The simple moves would not garner any thing from a fan base now accustomed to the wildest of stunts, so the competitors try their level best to boost their chances of winning with more creative moves.

The popularity of extreme sports has also seen a new group of fans in ...

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR ATV IN EXCELLENT CONDITION  by

 Alexander Sutton
5/24/2008 at 11:12
Once you’ve made your investment in your ATV, you want to protect it, like any investment. People regularly perform minor maintenance to keep their cars in the best condition, as well as maintenance on their homes, their electronics, and anything else they own of value.

All-terrain vehicles are no different, and like most things worth having, they need to have a little love! Here are some basic tips to protect your ATV and keep it in the best running and physical condition possible.

Before you begin any maintenance on the bike, you should be fed and rested. Your concentration and focus will diminish if you’re hungry or exhausted. When concentration diminishes, accidents happen.

You should always wash and inspect your ATV after riding it. When you detail the ATV (which is not necessary after every ride), you can use an old toothbrush to reach all the tiny little cracks and corners in the ATV.

The inspection should include the brake pads, all fasteners and levers, and anything that might need a good dose of WD40. If you need to fix, secure, replace, or otherwise fiddle with anything, be sure to use the right tools.

Pay special care to the air filters and tires. The more you take care of your air filters, replacing as needed, the longer the engine will last. Your tires will last longer if they’re not under-inflated. ATV tires can be leaky, and a tire without enough air pressure is a dangerous tire. If you check the ATV tires ...

ATVS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY  by

 Alexander Sutton

All Terrain Vehicles
There are over fifteen million ATV enthusiasts in the United States, as that number will probably grow in the upcoming years.

ATVs are often decried as being harmful to the environment, but that does not have to be the case. In fact, if every rider takes a few minor steps, ATVs can have a minimal impact on the environment.

It is everybody’s responsibility to respect the environment, so that future generations can enjoy it, and so that public land is not destroyed for everybody by a handful of inconsiderate riders.

Here are some basic tips. First, there are areas and trails that are specifically designated for all-terrain vehicles. You can minimize the impact on the surrounding environment if you stick to these designated areas. Incidentally, the designated areas are also safe for beginners, novices, and children.

Also, try to stick in the middle of the trail you’re riding. This will decrease the possibility of widening the trail and further encroaching on the surrounding land.

When you cross a river, do so at designated crossings. Don’t leave the trail to cross the stream at different points. If the trail you’d like to ride is muddy, save that trail for another day when the road is dry.

Riding on a muddy trail will create deep marks and scars in the trail that will be difficult to close again. These ruts will only grow with subsequent riders, so it is best not to contribute to the problem.

Always be sure ...

ATV SAFETY  by

 Alexander Sutton
5/24/2008 at 11:06
All Terrain Vehicles
ATVs, or all-terrain vehicles, are growing in popularity throughout the country. They come in many different sizes, including sizes that are suitable for children and teenagers. As a result, many families believe ATVs are appropriate for the entire family, and in many cases, that is true. But in order to be fun for everybody, certain rules and safety guidelines must be followed. ATVs might look like toys in some cases, but they are extremely powerful machines and they can cause a huge amount of damage if not treated properly.

If your family has recently acquired an ATV, or a few ATVs, the first thing you should do is take an ATV safety class. These classes are appropriate for anybody who has never owned an ATV before, anybody with children who will be driving the ATV or riding as a passenger, and anybody who plans to invite friends to ride the ATVs in the future. It is also a good idea to take a first-aid course if nobody in the family knows how to administer first aid. The moments immediately following an accident are critical, and all-terrain vehicles are often taken far away from cities and towns.

After you have taken safety courses, you need to look into buying the appropriate safety gear. Everybody in the family should have their own helmet that is an appropriate fit. Everybody should also have gloves, boots, and wear long sleeves and long pants. A heavy jacket provides additional protection, but sometimes ...

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN AN ATV  by

All Terrain Rescue LightweightVehicle
What you should look for in an ATV depends greatly on what you plan to use the ATV for. ATV is short-hand for all-terrain vehicle, and so there are many different types of motorized vehicles that technically fall into the category of ATV, and all these vehicles can be used for different things.

For example, there are four-wheeled ATVs that look more like small cars or golf carts. These are not used for recreational purposes-instead, people use them for farm work, or fish and game purposes. They tend to be very powerful, they can get through thick mud, swamps, and snow, and they can carry a great deal of weight. In contrast, there are small motorcycles that count as all-terrain vehicles.

All Terrain Recreation Vehicle
These lightweight, powerful motorcycles are used for recreational purposes, including professional and amateur racing on dirt tracks. There are also quad ATVs. These can also be used for recreational purposes, though they are helpful on ranches and farms.

If you are looking for an ATV for your ranch, farm, or other professional use, you want something that is big enough to haul tools, buckets, and even larger items, like fence posts. If you are looking for something for recreational use, you will want to consider your own skill level, who else will be riding it, and where you will be taking it. Overall, there are some characteristics that are universal.

First, you should always research the model that you ...

A GUIDE TO DUNE BUGGYS  by

All Terrain Dune Buggy

Dune buggys are recreational vehicles which sports wide tires, and meant to be used on a sandy precinct such as desert or beach. The fundamental design concept of dune buggys is a modified engine powering an open chassis. Americans are renowned for their insatiable appetite for the outdoors and the "Do it Yourself" concept. This makes the massive popularity growth of dune buggys hardly a surprise. The vehicle came to symbolize the carefree spirit of the beach crowd in the early 60s. Dune buggys were a common sight sloshing through the sand dunes of Southern California and Florida also the desert precinct such as Mexico’s Baja California and parts of California’s Mojave Desert. Crafted out of fiber glass, these early custom designed cars featured a rounded and squat appearance devoid of any flat lines. More than often these were the VW bug which was stripped down their engines tuned up for more power and fitted with larger tires with thick treads for traversing the sands. Most of the dune buggys had their rear tires bigger than the front ones.

There was a reason for selecting the VW Bug for modification; the rear mounted engine meant that once the body has been stripped down there is an enormous improvement in traction. Dune buggys are prone to flipping over; hence there is a safety roll bar in place which prevents the occupants from being crushed in the event of a rollover. These vehicles can be highly versatile ...

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DUNE BUGGIES  by

 Nick D

All Terrain Dune Buggy

Dune buggies are basically light vehicles featuring an open chassis and powered by a modified engine. These buggies, sport larger than average tires, which allow them to be easily navigable through the sand. However, these days, the term dune buggies have been diversified according to the type of terrain on which it’s driven. Dune buggies are being widely built to incorporate generic off-road capabilities such as indoor track racing. Some have even been built to be used as on-road vehicles. The function is considered and incorporated at the designing stage itself as this allows maximizing the comforts and safety features. These were primarily meant to be driven on beaches or deserts and that’s how the name dune buggies stuck

Construction: Dune Buggies were typically crafted using two methods, one was to alter an existing vehicle and the second was to construct a vehicle from scratch by welding together steel tubing. The Volkswagen Bug was always a clear favorite amongst dune buggy design aficionados, and the reasons are aplenty. The rear mounted engine allows for higher traction once the bodywork is removed. The air cooled engine vastly simplifies engine modifications, the absence of radiator is another and coupled with the easy availability of spare parts and cheap price makes the bug an unparalleled choice. Even the term "buggy" seems to have been borrowed and modified from the Volkswagen automobile. Creating dune buggies from welding together steel tubing (also known as space frame chassis) requires knowledge of ...

BUILD AN OFF ROAD GO KART  by

 Nick D
5/24/2008 at 10:56
An off road go kart is a four-wheeled vehicle meant for off road use unlike the longer established go karts meant for smooth circuits. Over the last few years off road karting has risen to being popular activity featuring an ever-increasing array of vehicles. The off road scene is amidst an evolutionary change, much like the general automobile sector. The origins of off road go kart is still a widely speculated one as the vehicle went through development stages. Over the years there have been so many claimants for the invention that it becomes difficult to a specifically pinpoint one. Nevertheless, it is widely agreed that Honda instigated the trend with the release of the ’Odyssey’ in 1977. It was a single seater off road go kart powered by a 250cc two stroke engine featuring a CVT automatic transmission. The primary differences between a conventional go kart vehicle and the off road counterpart is the roll and larger tyres which allows a greater ground clearance and improved traction.

Decline: The Odyssey proved to be a popular vehicle and soon Honda released an upgraded version, FL350 in 1985. Honda improved the roll cage, threw in a 350 cc engine featuring an electric starter and front and back suspension. Then in 1989, Honda came up with the FL400 in two versions, one with a dual seats, it featured a liquid cooled 400cc engine and also came with increased suspension to handle the greater load. However, the increased expense was too much for kart ...

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ATV  by

 John M Pawlak
5/24/2008 at 10:55
As with many items that have gained strong popularity with the public, the All Terrain Vehicle(ATV) has a very interesting history. What started out as essentially a farming resource has become the machine around which a highly competitive sporting and racing industry has been built.

Long before Honda introduced a vehicle in 1970 which would kick off the "modern era" of the ATV, numerous American companies offered small off-road vehicles which were amphibious in nature and were designed to traverse swamps, streams and ponds as well as dry land. These vehicles were constructed of fiberglass or hard plastic and usually had six wheels, all driven, providing for a strong traction component. They were intended for multiple riders and had steering wheels or control sticks instead of the standard motorcycle type mechanism used with the modern ATV.

In Japan, a similar vehicle was being used in farms that were located in mountainous terrain. In 1970, Honda introduced the US90 and was aided in its marketing effort by the James Bond movie "Diamonds Are Forever"; a motion picture in which the ATV played a significant part. The unique vehicle featured large balloon type tires instead of a mechanical suspension. The ability to go anywhere on country or terrain that most other vehicles could not cross soon made them popular with US and Canadian hunters, as well those just looking for a good trail ride.

In the early 1980’s, ATV’s were introduced that had a much lower tire profile and suspension. It was at this time ...
